We're still short a key defender unless another young player that is not weitering turns out. We're short on for young pacy inside midfielders at this stage (maybe). We're ok for small medium defenders. We look short on for key forwards (maybe) and tall quick skillful half forwards. There is potentially a small forward spot as well. Take out the over 27 year olds and we quickly become short in areas. I'd still have a young key defender as high priority, particularly if we are looking at modelling our game on Hawthorn's as it's detrimental to their defensive structure.

Completely agree that the likes of Wines and O'meara are too costly for us to even really consider, but say we do finish wooden spooners for arguments sake:

We would have picks 1, 19, 27, 35-40 (Bulldogs 3rd rd), 63, 81, 99
If we could snare two early 2nd round players from anywhere for players such as Everitt and Casboult (don't want to trade), do you think we could have the option of packaging together a deal with someone like GWS?

Costs: (May have undervalued these guys a little but just suggesting both have another year where they are injured or are not receiving enough game time).
Tomlinson - mid/late 1st rd or 2 x 2nd Rnd
Mayes - mid 2nd rd (2016) + early 3rd rd (2017)

In terms of the * players I mentioned it my belief you really need 6 KD on your list so with the possible retirement of Jamison (?) it may not be a bad option to explore. Hurley would cost big $$$ but Pears would be very cheap. Weitering, Rowe, Plowman, White, Jaksch + *.

In the draft that would have netted us 2 x talls and a HFF,HBF,MID.

As I mention all the time I have my heart set on Sam Petrevski-Seton. Love this guy and just oozes quality disposal with so much ease. Have been really coming around to Sam Powell-Pepper though. Has enormous leadership on the field, although his highlights reel doesn't suggest he is the cleanest in disposal. If we could grab all 5 of those guys I think it would be exceptional

May be wrong though :P

Mate you're absolutely right about Seton, I wish we can snare this bloke... Loved watching him last year!!

Agree 100%, ideally we'd have another 1-2 genuine KPP.

Disagree to more talls, or at least overpaying.

Jones might be a bust but we've added Gorringe, Phillips, Plowman, Foster, Jaksch, Weitering, McKay, C Curnow, Glass-McCasker, Silvagni, Korcheck in the past 15 months.

That's a very tall VFL side.

That's a lot of height alright.
I think the average there would be around 197cm

I think Tomlinsons trade value will decrease this year to a late 1st rounder/Early 2nd (pick 16-20).

GWS only held onto him as it would have looked bad if they traded him and not McCarthy. With only a year left on his contract, negativity to not being traded last year when a deal was done, and GWS having promising academy players coming through. I feel our 2nd pick will get it done if its under 20.

From the Bluemour File ...........

We don't deserve him. He's too good for us. I've always felt sheepish and a bit ashamed by the way he was unceremoniously shunted out of the club. He was so respectful and mature in response to the way he was treated as well. I hope the rumour is right. He seems like a genuinely good guy.

McCarthy was released to go home a week back. They will fight to retain a contracted Tomlinson.

If the price is too high, I'd be happy for the club to say no to Tomlinson.

Casboult, Phillips, Gorringe, McKay, Curnow, Jaksch. Do we need another tall forward, especially one who's more of an "athletic third tall" rather than a genuine KPP?

I'd be happy to pay a premium for a Patton-type, but I don't think there'll be one of his calibre on the market.

Tomlinson is potentially quality and would fit the mobile forward line model perfectly.

I don't think we need too many bash and crash forwards, would rather players who stretch the defence through movement off the ball and create space for others.

If we can get him...

In fact, insert his name at CHF in our probable Rnd 1 team and it's clear what he was going to do for us.

Question is would he be worth chasing if they want a top 10 pick for him? By that stage we've got a year's development into McKay and Curnow, and Gorringe hopefully spends the year at CHF as well.

I'd hope that after last year's shenanigans that GWS have an in-principle deal with us to let him go for a late-ish first (14-19). I'd be happy to pay that for him. But given the circumstances I don't think he's worth more than what we were willing to pay last year.

A forward line of McKay, Curnow, and Tomlinson would potentially be devastating for oppositions to defend. All three have big, powerful frames. All three are very mobile. Tomlinson would push up the ground and be a Nick Riewoldt type with his strong marking and aerobic capacity. McKay's height and mobility will make him a tough match up proposition. Curnow's ability to play up forward and through the middle would make him the prefect complement to that forward set up.

I'd be all for chasing Tomlinson again if the price is right. He may even be able to rotate with Gorringe with one playing wing (Blicav's style) and the other on the HFF. As that tall winger both Tomlinson and Gorringe would be difficult match ups.

I don't think there is any real prospect of getting Tomlinson now McCarthy has fled.
Not so sure, I mean, we know he asked for a trade last season, so there's no real reason he won't again. It's just the price that is an issue and I know they are different beasts, but GWS probably doesn't want another fanfare like there was with McCarthy.

In their position, I would be demanding a high premium or GTFO, so who knows.

Lots of potential for us in terms of forwards, but like a lot of positions the verdict is still out, have to wait and see, we'll know a lot about where we stand come next trade period. You'd love a few to put their hands up and us not need tall forwards at all so we can focus on other areas but we'll have to wait. I reckon another really good tall defender to compliment Weitering and a classy midfielder with pace and an ability to win his own ball and tackle or three is right up there with another big forward.

Unless Tomlinson has a really down year and really pushed hard to come to us, we're probably going to struggle to obtain him. We'd also have to have something they really want.

If Tomlinson was smart, he would say to GWS "I'll play out the season and give it my all, as long as you allow me a trade at the end of the season."

GWS wont want to set a bad precedent here, and if they were to go back on their word with Tomlinson, they will suffer in the long run.

May be tall but they are all unproven at this stage and there is every likelihood that at least 30-40% of them will not make it.
