Thing is, what can we offer for him next year? Wont give up pick one.

Will pick 19 do it? Probably not. Do we get a priority pick? In with a chance. What it would be, noone will know. Almost certainly not pick 2(although it should be). Pick 11( new random afl rule- first pick outside the top ten)? Or is it pick 19/20?

Only player with currency is gibbs, and dont see him moving.

We haven't had a great run with players falling into bad habits and others that had mental health issues.

You can do something about the former but harder to deal with the latter....which hadn't been particularly good at.
Not directed at you Harks, you just happened to mention it. Could you imagine the uproar if we 'stayed away' from indigenous boys because Yazz & Jeffy didn't turn out?

I laugh when I read/hear things about mental health. Gerard Whateley tried to say there's no stigma attached to it anymore. The voice of reason himself. What bullshit.

Man up, you'll be right. I've heard it a million times. Society is so backwards in some regards it ain't funny.

Sorry, just a real sore point with me. Rant over, carry on.

I've had my mum turn around and tell me that I should get out and do something when I am having a massive down day.

But still... I have been doing some carpentry lately making a bird breeding box. I will say that working with my hands again has been awesome and all my old skills are on the improve every day :D

Love hearing stories like that my friend, gives me hope. Keep getting out there and try not to listen to the doubters, even if it's your mum :p:thumbsu:

He'll be out of contract, no? Our second and maybe swap future seconds.

I think we can forget him to be honest. We have missed the boat. Should just move on.

If he kills it next year. We will have to pay a lot more to him. Both to GWS and to Him. Not something we really want to be doing with our rebuild.

If he doesn't kill it we will be all saying how we were lucky we didn't get him.

Don't really know how we can get him next year.

One thing is sure though. A lot more Carlton players will be watching GWS games.

My take on the Tomlinson situation.

Carlton, western bulldogs and GWS came to agreement for 20&21 to doggies, 11 to gws and tomo to Carlton. With parties agreeing in principle.

Tomo manager tells him of the trade and he follows Carlton on twitter. Carlton gets their media involved.

Fremantle finds out and pressure gws into a trade for McCarthy. Gws feeling the pressure knowing they could lose both right then decide to stop the 3 way trade.

Carlton desperate still trade the picks with doggies and pull the trigger on yarran trade hoping to persuade gws. But it didn't happen. Tomo then unfollows Carlton and media team pack up and leave.
He is still following us and Jack Silvagni.
I'm still pretty annoyed by it all too. Dunno about Weitering but i really feel that Tomlinson is the key to setting up our most effective forward structure and he would become a legend at our club.
I can't think of anyone other than J Roughead who is built like that who can run and set up play like he can. He would be a must to set up Everitt, Kerridge, Clarke/Burton/Curnow (hopefully), Caz, Smith, etc

That's the shit part, he is a PERFECT fit for our team. God help us if Casboult gets injured, what on earth is going to be going on up forward? And I'm probably Levi's biggest fan but he's no world beater, so that forward line is paper thin already.

Tomlinson is an absolute beast (people will judge him on how many goals he kicks but that's not where this true value lies), it is total bullshit and GWS have royally ****ed us.

Even though I'm annoyed, they didn't exactly stuff us, he's contracted just like Yaz but for longer and always tried his guts out, and had the goodness of character not to shaft GWS and bite the hand that feeds. Situation had to suit GWS and i would say that McCarthy and Freo trying to force GWS to trade against their will made the situation so sore and i can't honestly say that I would blame GWS for showing some strength. I just wish they traded him to us and then said to Freo/McCarthy that THIS is how things get done - not forcing people against their will.
Fingers crossed he still wants to play for us at next year's end and we can make a fair trade for him.

Well he certainly wants to play for us, he thought he was a Carlton player and that everything was agreed upon, hence the "stuffing around" part.

We should have handed over 8 though, I guess it's our own fault really. 8 is essentially Henderson for Tomlinson so I really don't know why we didn't pull the trigger.

I don't think it was that.
I think a lot at the club really rate him and didn't want him to go, the club didn't want to be hypocritical re McCarthy, and they believe they can get more for their boys in the next year or 2. It doesn't hurt them in the slightest to hold out for a year or 2 and see what other clubs will offer in an auction.
I still can't believe the AFL gave them so much.
Even if they trade these guys for first rounders, they can only field 1 team in the AFL - but they've got so many top players they could literally field a second very good team capable of making the finals.

I'm just saying that we didn't deal well with players that did have genuine issues and as far as staying away from them. There may have been a player last year that was overlooked exactly for those reasons.

Tomlinson is contracted for two more years isn't he?
Unfortunately yes. I dare say we'll try again 12 months. GWS don't want to lose him for less when he comes out of contract.

I don't think GWS wanted picks this year they had enough points, we should of traded 11 this year to another club for there first next year then on traded it to GWS for Tomlinson.

An agreement in principle should be as good as signed contract....This isn't a Jerry MaGuire situation and GWS will be stuff for the next 12 months with a forward line that doesn't want to play for the jumper. Our code is better than that.

So we play Richmond round 1, next year.

Will this be the first match ever that yazz doesn't smile and hang out with the opposition after the game?

He'll kick 5 goals and be BOG....it only happens to ex-Carlton players...

Yeah mate as I said, certainly not a jab at you. That's an observation I've made over many years. One that disappoints me.

I'm actually all for recruiting mentally tough types ATM, we're going to need them. And it's also more than probable we may not have dealt with a few things well at all in the recent past.

What the goal should be is to be in a position to be able to take a punt or 2 on talented players with a few issues. Within the next 4-5 years. It can certainly pay off when your up the top, winning can cure most things.

Then there's Dayle Garlett types...

Makes sense.... Cant see us being able to land him barring a major change of mind from McCarthy. In fact depending on McCarthy's attitude/ professionalism it wouldn't surprise to see Tomlinson take over that role in GWS forward line. No way GWS let both leave in next trade period.
