My opinion is that Marchbank is worth a second round pick and Tomlinson is worth a third and a fourth.
Seeing as both supposedly want to come home to Victoria tell me what Vic clubs you think would use their first round selection on these two? Don't forget Collingwood, Geelong and Melbourne don't have first round selections in this draft.
But the national draft is irrelevant, once a player chooses a club then GWS only deal with that club, the player does not have to accept any other deal regardless of how good, im sure you know this. So if either of them choose us then where they would go in the draft is irrelevant.
The general consensus on here is that Tomlinson will be available for a pick in the 30's seeing as though our third will be around 41-43 and our forth will be around 59-61 or the dogs third at around pick 50. Pick 42 and pick 60 = pick 34, 42 and 50 = pick 29 both i think are reasonable.
Richmond probably would've played him way out of position and as a result not given him time in the 1s.

Here's one for the grains trust ... Dean Rice wore #23 and Jacob Wheatering wears #23.
Good.
Pea heart.
James Aish board, we dodged a bullet with that sooky la la.
There would have to be some major concerns about Lennon now. He looks very talented with ball in hand but is clearly still lacking the gut-running ability required for AFL and is now in his third year. A year younger than Menzel, so I guess you can't put a line through him yet, but he really is at the stage where he should be getting some regular games.Talk is we might make another play for Lennon from the Tigers. Not sure his importance due to others finding their feet within the side but I saw this guy play as a junior and was exciting to say the least. Surprised he hasnt been given a run after being promised more game time.
Another my good insider friends have mentioned is Neal-Bullen from the Dee's who although i have not seen personally is supposedly an incredible in and under midfielder who finds his own ball and delivers it well in traffic.
Not sure either have a place in our mid/fwd but will be interesting if these rumours gain weight in the coming few months.
Whilst this isn't the place to really discuss the Tigers' list management, they've definitely made a string of (now proven) questionable calls that would surely make supporters disillusioned with their direction and decision-making.There would have to be some major concerns about Lennon now. Ah Richmond... Don't ever changeYoud think so but no.
The majority of their fans still think they ll be playing Finals this year now that they ve strung a few wins in a row together.
Prestia would be a massive midfield upgrade on Curnow, Graham, Whiley, Boekhurst etc and miles ahead of plenty of others on the wing/flanks.
Great ball winning ability and uses it pretty well, we need more of them.
....and the Hawks are about to lose the greatest collection of on-field leaders in the modern football era. That's as much part of their strength as their skill.
How do you replace
Hodge, Lewis, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Lewis, Roughead, Gibson?
That's 7 potential skippers.
I don't see that sort of quality in the ones coming through.

Bed-in?Funny you mentioned Lennon. Out for another protracted period of time.
Curnow along with Cruz and Kerridge's defensive running was awesome on the weekend. Like having an extra player out there. Just keep chasing. Cannot be overemphasised how important it was to the win.Doesn't play remotely the same position; superficially, both play midfield, but Curnow is a tagger who can get his own ball, and who has taken enormous strides this year. Prestia - given what I know about him, which isn't a lot - is an inside/outside mid, who impacts contests with timing and class.
Would love to get him, but would vastly prefer not to lose draft picks to do so. If we do, though, he would set us in a better sort of stead for the tilt in three/four years time, when Murph/Gibbs/Thomas are long in the tooth, provided he fits in.

And how does this affect us if this goes ahead.
Bring on a higher draft pick than we'd expect.
Best idea I have read for a long time.http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/frema...ckers-the-no1-draft-pick-20160531-gp7uij.html

So if we finish the year in the position we are currently in and we don't factor in any bidding we will have pick 8 (I suspect it to drift out to about 12 at this stage). If there were no other bids in the draft our picks would look like 12, 30, 48, 64, 82 (not including the dogs third). I think 30 is a little bit too high for Tomlinson. Suspect the Giants would expect something in the range of 15-25.
Marchbank, although he was a high draft pick, won't get gws the same return as his draft value. I believe he was pick 6 and from all reports, they see him as a vital player. We would need to pay something 12-18 for him imo. If we get him, our back line looks set for 10 years. That's one less gap we have to think about.
Add to the mix Steele (who looks the goods) and Stewart (who didn't look out of place in their forward line when played previously) and it looks a major coup for our club going forward. Our first pick approx 12 satisfies Gws re Marchbank, 30 is close to the mark for Tomlinson and then they throw in Steele and Stewart for (let's be honest) nothing. It looks a clear win to me.
I understand what you are saying re: Once a player chooses a club. But GWS have been our money pit (especially last year) and to not deal fair with them (when it looks like we win this trade scenario) would be foolish.
Everyone is screaming out for mids and rightly so. But a sure back line and the addition of Steele and Tomlinson (who would get mid time) will help us big time in going forward. I say take the gws 4, give the 2015 forwards another year and then take all mids in 2017 and possibly a free agent. 2018 will be the time we really see the fruits of this reset to become aggressive. Especially if we added a free agent to the likes of Danger.
Stay the course Sos and Co
uncanny connectionGeoff Southby and Lachie Plowman both wear #20. Southby comes from the bush where there are farmers.....who use 'ploughs' !!!

And if a bunch of blokes all retire or have career-ending injuries? You'd wanted a weighted average, leaning towards recent performance.http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/frema...ckers-the-no1-draft-pick-20160531-gp7uij.html
