Very good player is an interesting way of putting it.

Not suggesting he can't be a decent player for us but you're talking about taking on a long term contract for a player that played VFL most of the year.

Feels like a decent sized gamble for me...and not one that should at all be connected to trading a very good key forward of the competition.

• Florent played 16 AFL games this year... so not most of the year in VFL
• 2020 = 10th B&F, 2021 = 9th B&F, 2022 = 10th B&F, 2023 = 6th B&F, 2024 = 7th B&F
• That's five top 10 B&F finishes in a mostly strong team that made 2 grand finals
• He hardly misses games, very durable
• He had one down year mostly due to falling out of favour with Cox...

He is a very good player, certainly better than Boyd, Carrol, Charleston, Wilson...

Florent is borderline steak knives. Would give up 22 if the second player was actually good (Roberts, for example).

Roberts sucks, gets cheap touches from kickouts, is slow and a woeful defender. Theres a reason he was also out of their 23 in the back end of the season

I can't help but be reminded of Geoff Southby and his determination to play for South Melbourne back in the day. Carlton said no, he sat out half a season before relenting. Finished his career as a Carlton Legend and in my opinion, our greatest ever full-back.
