Lets say we got a lot of asset for a bidding war for Butters next year.

Do we though? Those 2027 1sts aren't going to be super valuable as that draft will be compromised by Tassie. And we will need our 2026 1sts for Walker. Butters will require 3x1sts minimum. Think he's a pipe dream unless Port finish bottom 2 or 3 and decide that pick is better than multiple later 1sts.

Not sure if it’s been said yet as I’m 20 pages behind.

Just want to say a massive thanks to all that posted ‘to their knowledge’ any information that they had over the last couple weeks (and throughout the year). Whether it became real or not, I’m sure I’m not alone in saying it added to the theatre of the trade period and had us all on edge.

I know that the information is At that point of time and that it can change quickly, so thanks for being brave and sharing for all us tragic supporters.

Don’t let a few idiots deter you from sharing what you may have going forward, because the majority of us see that NO DISCUSSION thread light up and get excited.

Leeeeeeeeets gooooooooooo BAGGERS.

Apparently not fond of carlton either, despite owing his career to the club and being given an extra year at the end he didnt deserve.
And building his house from the recycled timber of Pratt stand, keeping the row numbers

I dont think we will finish much worse this year even if we do have injuries 7 to 9 wins.
If we stay healthy and Hudson okeffe and the small forwards have a big year we could be seriously pushing for a top 8 to 6 spot
It is obvious we will finish considerably higher....

Curnow and TDK did SFA all year.

JSOS - meh, when he's out there...

In walk Ainsworth, Hayward into our F50.

Chesser and Ollie on the wings (f. off Blake after that Cats carp)

Florent and Newy on the HB line, freeing up Saady.

The big bloke from Freo - well, he is f'n tall (205?) and he's a bit of a mongrel with a bloody good left peg (far bet shot at goal than TSK).

He'll go ok.

Watch Moir go bang too.

Ok i went a bit early and thought Charlie was for 2 firsts and Hayward… the 3 and Hayward with the later swaps is good … but im still sad to see Charlie go deep down.

One thing I did notice is Ainsworth(pick 4) Hayward (pick 21) and Florent (pick 11) are all from the 2016 draft which we completely bottled after the 2015 draft and didn’t correct In the 2017 draft. This has been a massive issue for us. Not sure if this was done on purpose but it helps address the depth issues we’ve had outside of Harry, weiters, Walsh, Cripps, Charlie who were all taken around that age bracket. All 3 of these guys are proven solid AFL players and all will easily be in our top 12 players in my view.

A few thoughts playing on my mind...

Yes, the future Sydney picks are going to be late, however, our needs are based on the father son system. Losing 2nd and 3rd round picks this year doesn't impact us (considering we have 9 and 11 to work with), but gaining 1st rounders in 26 and 27, ensures we have enough assets to move around for Cody. Depending on where we finish in 26, who knows what else we can do with these.

It isn't about who won the trade, it is about fulfilling our strategy. To be able to get in 5 specific players of need AND tick off father son assets means we have done exactly what we needed to. It is a shame that Buku didn't make it, but we will pivot and still bring in a defender.

I don't expect to make finals next year, but the future looks secure and each year I trust GW and CD to keep improving our club.

Well done, Carlton. You turned a tough mini exodus situation into something positive.

Moving those two mid first picks for an established player or higher selection .

How do you claim we got two best 22 players for a Charlie?

Do not say Florent which the club insists is a separate unrelated deal.

Fair enough. I would have preferred the two 1st's got on-traded for Humphrey or another player. It would appear that there simply wasnt time to do that seeing as with 15 minutes to the deal was likely not happening.

We can argue back and forth on Florent and his inclusion or not. The reality, after the trade period, we've added two best 23 players from the Swans and 1st's for Charlie and extras back to them.

Time will tell, one way or another. We really need to turn it al into Walker, Dean, Ison and 2 other top liners, with one of them being a key forward.

The deal being reported was Haywood, 11 and a F1 on the live feed. It was a reaction to that. He took the response out of context, which he often does.

Look out for it the next time he does it. 😂

Pretty sad about Charlie leaving but we are well compensated and have a secured the father son/academy picks we want.

Finally caught up 😪
Watched the trade deadline with my 8 year old son. He was sad at first to loose Charlie. Then we watched Ainsworth’s highlights and he said I think my new favourite player will be Ben. Do you think he will play round one dad? I responded with let’s go to the game and find out. The jumper means so much more than the players.
My 12yo was a bit sad, then said, well we didn't do much with him in the side, did we, so no biggie!

This place 🤣

Geelong - offer 3x firsts (forum - oh what a shit deal)

Sydney - offer 3x firsts and a player, with picks going back (forum - oh yes! Lets circle jerk each other)

I’m a Hayward fan and glad we got him in the deal.

My issue is our team not being able to utilise picks 9 & 11 and turn it into something and not getting a deal done for a player that publicly nominated the club.

Clearly wasnt time according to Davies. 15 minutes to go the deal wasnt happening at all.

I could almost guarantee Sydney won't make the 8....
Agreed, Cox isn't the same sort of coach that Longmire was. They were supposed to make the 8 this year, and fell off.

maybe... watch this space (re Tassie)

Up to JM to lift....
Competition is king for places. And if Motts wants to play seniors, it's up to him to force his way into the side. That being said, It's up to the other players to keep him out as well. And, the game plan for each opponent will mean that people will change between sides depending on match ups.

Haven't seen anyone else do it, so I'll have a punt:
Out - In
Docherty - Florent
Silvagni - Dean
Chincotta - Chesser
De Koning - Reidy
Curnow - Hayward
Durdin - Ainsworth
Fantasia - Ison
Lemmey - pick 9/11/slider first rounders

On paper we are worse off. Question whether the additions are better for the team due to their attributes. Future flexibility is great, and we can death ride Sydney, but ultimately feels like we are further from a flag when viewed through this lens.

(Note Newman and Jagga coming in along with Holland's and a fitter version of a few players could be the extra 10-15% gap)
