I would let Gov go. Part of the old problem

Apparently, Wade Derksen is a quality person and available. Only 24 and IMO as good as Khamis. Plays a similar role and just delisted by GWS as they re signed Aleer and apparently LaVerde

I’d look at him and Philips
We'd be competing with Melbourne and the Dogs, but I'd do it. I'd sign both. 2 years for Derksen, 1 year for Gov.

Young needs to play deep lock down. That’s the role he has been and shown best, when Weits was out for a while.
Weitering is better at intercepting and offensive counter attack. Use him further up and let him use his IQ to play 3 rd up as needed. It won’t work the other way around and we still haven’t learnt this.
I personally think young is an oveertall interceptor. Nothing else. Yes, he was excellent in a 5 week period under the highest of pressure to perform. But that was like a subset that he couldnt maintain. Plenty of players who have been delisted can play 5 weeks of very good footy. They simply cant maintain it like young cant.

It's been 14 years and people still don't get what Moneyball is. Moneyball was never about the 'players'. It's about nothing more than "on base %". That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. It has no relevance to any other sport or buying players.

IF: this is true
THEN: it's still only the second most misunderstood movie in the AFL

Bit of “after” draft information. Nothing really earth shattering

Sydney were looking to trade mostly players to us for Charlie but couldn’t get many to commit. Rowbottom Campbell McInerney names that said no to a trade early

Charlie had been saying he was gone nearly all year. Gave up on season early. Geelong was preference over Sydney and GCS. As TDK & Jack gone we were happy to let him go for right price.

Humphrey had feelers out to come home and we were serious option. We asked but we’re quickly told not being traded and don’t bother offering anything. Feel he will ask again next year

No interest in Elijah at all. Damaged reputation

Chased Ned Reeves
Didn’t think Khamis would be an issue but Dogs kept changing needs
Absolutely wrapt with Chesser
We were in discussions with Florent even prior to Charlie option

Everything on table for draft. Insiders very excited by Dean & Ison. Will likely pick one more. Some believe Ison easily Top 10

Still looking at DFAs before finalising list

As someone said all of a sudden club has different look and feel and people are excited. Expectations are high and many players training already at club

List should be all good for pre season. Kemp coming along slowly. Cripps etc will be given good break and limited up until New Year

No one sees this as a rebuild.

Awesome update! Thanks soap

Humphrey may try again next year, but we will be in a tough position as we cant trade high draft picks due to Cody Walker. So unless we trade a good player or they accept future picks, it will be a bit tough.

Thats why I hope we get another F1. Insurance for Walker depending on bids changes, plus gives us currency to trade for a player.

Love this, thanks mate.

Any word on how Newman is going? Need him fit and firing.

The dude just won our B&F and is in career peak form but you want him out of the team and playing two’s…

facepalm GIF
100% - Crippa, Walsh, George & Cerra does not work!
We’ve seen it for years now, when it’s on our terms they win clearance - but move it poorly and it amounts to SFA.

Cerra playing fit is a better footballer than George & significantly more damaging, Walsh/Crippa isn’t a question who better more/damaging.

George is the weak link - has been for years, yes he’s a good player but provides zero damage - football isn’t picked on “who’s a better player but what provides a better result”,
I give zero ****s he won the B&F!

The fact he’s the “best” in club explains how poor our game plan, style and season was.

I will take Lord & Smith over George every single day, we need to evolve - another season of the same slow, crash, bash, exit backwards, no chase, no burst will be a disaster.

George is where we can improve thru evolving the game style.
His skill set is the exact opposite of what we actually need - not saying he doesn’t do what he does well, just saying it’s not what we need to get better!

as much as I like George, he needs to find another role (doubtful he can) or he is just an option to rotate in and out of the side to rest Cripps etc...

Unfortunately the 2's captaincy beckons.

Yeah - Nah.
It’s about runs scored & needed to produce a winning season/make play offs.
Getting on base enables runs to be scored.

“Money ball” is now common vernacular for a player who’s “value” is significantly lower than there actual production/output.

It’s buying a valuable asset cheaply as others don’t value it based on “feelings/emotion/bias” instead of the decision being based on straight data/fact - it’s why the term is used in other sports even thou it was coined & most applicable to the structure of baseball

That night very well be true... if T could understand it.

True - but there was line where they were trying to replace Giambi (I think) and find a player who would return the same on base % of 0.477

Beanes 'moneyball' strategy was get three cheaper players who, in aggregate, could return 0.477.

There is a sort of parallel with Charlie where we replace his 60-odd goals a year with Ainsworth, Hayward and Kemp (for example).

Around here it has become common vernacular for pseudo-dependable types you don't need to develop.
