Maybe you're greatly underestimating White HBF :P

(I agree though)

Also, does Cachia getting a low number mean anything in regards to him getting game time? Or was it just available for him?

I think it is pretty much unwritten policy to give the highest ranked draftees the lowest number available??

I think it's a reasonable decision for the club to give White the 43. The fact that he's a rookie takes away the stigma and expectation. For example, if we gave Lucas the 43 I'd think the expectations on him would increase sharply, while on White it's just a number.
This is just a way for the club to 'take out the sting' of giving a player the 43.

I was thinking along the lines of 'nominated rookie' when I saw his number.

Do they actually get given the number by the club or do the players just choose from whatever numbers are available?

Future looks bright for this rookie, however!

Surely they're allocated. Could get a bit hairy having two players compete for the same number. Especially for all the Adelaide kids who would be just dying to play in #69

"Dude, what does mine say?!"

Feel a little sorry for Simon WHITE!!!!

Having to wear the guernsey number worn by 4 time premiership player 'Swan' McKay puts a lot of pressure on the kid. Kouta did his best, but still came up short of the level of football McKay played. Maybe White can take the guernsey to the next level.

That's a big call MS. I dont think you can compare the two. They played in completely different times and in very different positions. Swan played when we had a succesful club, Kouta had the best and also the very worst and still stood out as a champion. I did not see a lot of McKay only on footage on the TV and videos, so It's a bit hard for me to say anything about him. But what I have seen he was brilliant, but so was Kouta.

You can add Michael Kennedy to this list of Carlton players who have carried the number 43 to premiership success.

What?

It isn't just Koutoufides' number to give out.

McKay was a Carlton star and a four time premiership player, so it's as much his number as Koutoufides'.

If not more.

Koutoufides was just a very good player between 2002 and when he retired in 2007.

I rate the other McKay higher than Koutoufides for his consistency, leadership, hardness and being a gun footballer from day dot.

Spuds such as Maxwell can make an AA side as a backman now.

That hack wouldn't even crack a spot in our last premiership side.

Andrew McKay owns that hack and wannabe hardman.

Er, whoosh?
