I’m very curious about his connection and on what basis he was recommended to play a role.
The most obvious connection that I can see is that Hisgrove worked at NAB during the period Thorburn was CEO. Hisgrove has since been at the AFL, at PwC where she would’ve come across Brasher, and now she’s at KPMG.

There are probably other connections though, I doubt the CEO of NAB for that long is wholly unconnected with Essendon’s coteries, if not a member of one himself.

Barham is connected to Walls via ch10. Mahoney is connected to Lewis via their time at Melbourne.

I’m not sure how they got McKinnis, there’s nothing obvious there unless Barham might know her through sport media.

She appears to have left NAB in 2010 before Thorburn was CEO although she probably worked with him in some capacity whilst she was there, so you’re probably right that that’s a connection.

I haven’t gone through all posts so not sure if it’s already been said. But it is curious that Lewis is on the sub committee given he trashed Barham and called his handling of Rutten a disgrace, and questioned why any new coach would ever want to go to Essendon.

Not criticizing it but I did find that interesting. If anything, it gives me more confidence that things are finally being done properly by involving outside people who are very willing to be critical.

For those following the aus post delivery story.

My 7 year old son loves the Bombers with a loyalty they quite frankly don't deserve. As we live in the south west of WA and know what eagles fans are truly like, we have not yet been to a game with him. This ******* club decided on Monday to thank him for his support by sending him a membership that allowed him to attend the last 2 home games of the season. This was sent out after the Richmond game. I am seriously considering pushing him towards the dockers.

The Bombers don't deserve him.
If you don’t I might have to call child services.

All this is completely academic anyway mate, because it's not as if it's Grand Ridge Gippsland Gold.

Just knocked off one right now.
Yarragon Ale House has a range of Gippsland craft beers on tap, including the delicious Pretty Penny copper ale from Bandoliers in Warragul.

Hope you don't mind me posting. The "other" half my family are Essendon tragics so I guess I have a little bit of skin in the game.

Seems to me you are where we were at when we were sacking coaches. We got really good at it lol.

When we appointed Frawley it was because no one else in their right mind was game to put their hand up so we appointed him even though his playing and coaching track record was not exactly a "track record of success". Us Tiger supporters feel dreadful about what happened to Frawley but his record ended up one finals gig (2001) and top ups with fairly average players. You don't want to go down that path.

When we appointed Wallace we were basically sick of being shit and he was the only "name" guy available. So we took him and gave a massive 5 year contract and a commitment not to sack him (though he actually quit a few games shy of the end). Even though he was a bit of a tosser, and he parachuted his cronies like Greg Miller straight onto the board, at least he knew the AFL politics and had enough of a name to keep the coteries at bay and the supporters invested.

I get the feeling that Ross Lyon is your version of Wallace. Might not be the coach you want but might be the coach your club has to take.

Im probably grasping at straws but this all stinks to me....

An alternative theory is it's possible Barham isnt as stupid as he's come across with all this. He wrestled power with the promise of a healthy chance at Clarkson - despite knowing it was way too late but took power anyway. He's then proceeded to drain the swamp with the review (that's now not required). And now it's time to land Hird which was always the promise to Sheedy to get his vote. Cue bright and shiny coaching selection panel for optics.

I can't see any way Barham realistically thought he was getting Clarkson and I also can't see any other reason he would need to publicly announce the need for an experienced coach (except having one lined up).

Of the remaining board we can only assume they are rubber stamping whatever the president says as they were clearly all aboard with another no process appointment in Clarkson if it got up.

Nothing here says anything new to me and a thorough untainted coaching selection process would be a totally new concept at Essendon, apparently being performed by a group who 5 seconds ago, was totally prepared to do the opposite.

Edit; I reckon there's a very good chance it ends up - Hird as coach. Barham stays President, Sheedy stays, Dodoro stays and Mahoney will remain (for the time being).
I don’t think there is any way Hird ends up selected as coach by a properly composed panel - which, despite the baffling presence of Walls, this appears to be.

Yes and that’s all well and good, but what is your preferred beer?

So there's some detail coming out and people seem to be slowly more accepting of Barham and co...

Has he or anybody else explained how or why we could sack Rutten before anything else? If they're getting an external review of everything, how were they so sure he had to go, yet nobody else did???

Was he purely sacked because we chased Clarkson?
Maintain the rage, because it is outrageous. The ER is the window dressing for that dog's breakfast.

An ER is needed, but I don't see how it examines the coaching, training, player performance, injury history and the 2022 draw effectively and properly now. If it does and finds the fault lies a bit with each of those, as we all know it does, it would surely find that sacking Rutten was potentially 6 months premature.

In my view, it's that finding that would/should make Barham's position untenable. The search for a new coach is exciting, and I'm glad they've put together a panel for that, even if it appears tilted towards a couple of candidates, but we shouldn't let that blind us from watching with a scrutinous eye. All is not well.

We know that Barham's sacking of Rutten lacked integrity. We ought to look for the signs of integrity or otherwise in every decision going forward.

It’s not surprising most of us have got some level of anxiety about it all; the level of trust we as fans have had of the board/admin for a long time has been zero.

It’s going to take some time for the trust to be restored and that process and span of time will be different for everyone.

I’m more on the optimistic side although admittedly a bit nervous about the Hird thing. I like the coaching selection subcommittee except for Andrew Thorburn. He didn’t exactly cover himself in glory through the banking royal commission; was very combative which was the wrong approach. I’m very curious about his connection and on what basis he was recommended to play a role.
After his dismissal due to the commission, it wouldn't surprise me if he's someone's pal.

...also, you lot trying to out-fancy each other with your boutique beers need a reality check. Victoria Bitter is seriously the best Aussie beer going around. It's bite with that first swig is always just lovely. Just because it's common doesn't mean it's p***weak, so to speak.

Although James Boags is also a lovely beer.

Didnt Ross have issues with sexual harassment towards the end of his coaching reign at freo?
no, he had no issues with it at all - he loved some sexual harassment.

I'm liking what is being set up so far. It remains to be seen if this demand for excellence can be maintained. Good start!!!

Was not towards the end. There was an incident at a staff Christmas party I think but it was earlier in his Fremantle days. He had been on the beers and made some crude remarks about her.
