Another disappointing effort from him today when the game should suit him.

He has not played a really good game for weeks - since his injury.:(

He does not kick enough goals and is too slow for a little man.

He tackles well ,but that is often because his man beats him to the ball.

He needs a big second half.

Correct on all counts ...add to those comments that he loses his feet all the time.

Everyone admires his courage and grit but an AFL career has to be built on more than that....

nahwa half pace of game for 3/4 of the game, persistence paid off. IMHO
Keep for at least the next game!

Why is there no thread on stevens game?????
COSTFULL IMO!!!
Stevens = 5 goal differance/ HAWKS WAY!

Bodey is like one of my favourite players but to be honest when all the players come back he probably isn't in their best 22. I'm not sure what i'd do with him.
I agree Stevens made a few mistakes but he was reasonable and played some good footy.

As long as he's the best available for a particular role ATT he will.....but he wasn't last year (yes I know he was injured part way thru) or the year before, and I suspect his tenure will be short-term as a filler till players like Vince and Porplyzia are further developed.

Welsh will be back soon. Maybe he's the answer you are looking are. Same type of player. Puts lots of pressure in the forward 50, takes marks and kicks goals.

If we with a forward line like this:

FF: Welsh Ricciuto Hentschel

HF: Perrie McGregor Burton

We will be to top heavy; we need a small in there some where so that effectively means Scott Welsh and Mark Ricciuto cannot co exist in the same forward line. Mathew Bode is the player that has been given the opportunity to play as that forward line rover and up until this week he has been doing a fine job at it.

This is how I would like to see the forward line look like:

FF: Hentschel Ricciuto Bode

HF: Perrie McGregor Burton

Until Mark Ricciuto can show he is fit enough (NC implied in his press conference that he should be showing more on the training track now) to play in the middle, Scott Welsh will have to stay at West Adelaide.

We need to have a good balance between smalls and tall’s and this will help the structure put in place, not just player who have kicked goals in the past.

Have always been on the front foot in Bodes defense against accusations from some people on this board but if Bodes form doesn't improve within the next week or two then he could find himself back playing for Glenelg.

(which would be a bonus for the bays :) )

If Mathew Bode form doesn’t improve the match committee move Andrew Mcleod or Graham forward? Ben Hart could easily do the same job on a half back flank.

Scott Welsh is not the same type of player as Mathew Bode, so IMO that move will work, with Burton, Welsh and Ricciuto in the same forward line we need a small to be that rover as the bottom of the pack. If it’s not Mathew Bode then who?

I don’t believe that Scott Welsh will be good at playing that role.

No he's not the small crumbing forward Craig is looking for....Stiffy would be ideal but I don't think he can play at both ends simultaneously :D

Of the current available Porplyzia is the best option, IMO Vince the best reader of the ball of hands/packs we have but he's not ready yet.

Bode simply doesn't have the legs or nous to get to enough contests ....he does however give us defensive pressure in the forward 50.

What we need though is defensive and offensive players.....Porplyzia for me

Right again WW. Crows 98 surely you cannot be serious when you say Bode has played well until this week. He was quiet again last week and his turnovers resulted in two clear goals to the Swannies.

He has been quiet since his injury, but too many people want to defend him, based on his performances earlier in the year. He was good at this time except for missing goals. he has not played with any authority latley and IMHO he will be one of the first to go, if he cannot recqapture this early season form.

Of course I am being serious; Mathew Bode is in no way AA form but saying that he is not a liability to the success of the side.

In my opinion he has not played a game this year where he deserved to be dropped, sure he has had quiet days but so does everyone.

Can you enlighten me to a round where his performance has not been up to scratch and given the match committee a reason to drop him?

Don’t talk about stats and his efficacy to burn the ball because anyone can make a stat tell any story they want, and everyone know that stats lie?

I wouldn't say Bode's played any games where he's deserved to be dropped, it's more a matter of not playing games where he demands to be picked next week.

Its just Bodey bashing which goes on here all the time and when you point out other players bad and quite periods you get shot down in flames. Some people wont rest untill Bode is delisted.

So far this year he has played well not brilliant but servicable

Lol, Wayne that's hardly convincing.

well, err, he wasn't last year nyah, nyah... but then you respond to yourself half way through having realised the flaw in your logic... oops, injury :D

No, too many chess games, anticipating your response halfway through :D

I'm a huge Bode fan but have been worried by his form.

Small forward is a footballers graveyard. The opportunistic nature of the position means that most small forwards are often referred to as 'inconsistent' and 'much maligned' and they tend to be the first ones dropped. When the Crows dominate and are clean with their possession (ie against Geelong) there is nothing for Bode to do. Yesterday's game was the time we needed him to have an impact but sadly he did not.

What I like most about Bode is his love of a contest. During a tough, hard-fought finals encounter we know that he will not get stage fright and go back into his shell. Rather, he will be at the forefront. The St Kilda final is the perfect example of why we need Bode playing.

I think that in the heat of a finals battle, Bode will perform better than Porplyzia, Vince and Welsh. So i'm inclined to leave him in.

Huh?

Stevens spent most of the game on the disappointing Croad ... ran off him & used the ball well. Can't recall him costing us 5 goals.

I can recall one. I don't know where the other 4 came from.
