Bomber asks Cookey if he fought with Balmey because of Ablett. Bomber then asks if Cookey had an affair with Ablett; Cookey refuses to answer, insults Bomber, and decides to leave. Bomber directly asks Ablett about the affair and he sarcastically states that he had sex with the entire neighborhood after he breaks down the bathroom door where Ablett briefly hides from him. Bomber angrily walks to Cookey's house and brutally beats him up in front of Ablett and Balmey's wife and children. Later Bomber makes a call to Cookey, but when Cookey assumes Balmey is on the other end and starts insulting and cursing at him, Bomber says nothing and hangs up. This drags Bomber down to a pit of deep depression and he resigns as senior coach.

Magnificent send up. Probably more accurate than some of the fantasy in this thread.

But seriously, if your friend had personal business information that he gleaned when Bomber was a bit emotional (fedup with things) over a dinner, ethically it shouldn't be posted here as it could be taken out of context. We for instance don't know what in particular was bothering him at the time and he may have gotten well and truly past that, and what has caused his exhaustion and thoughts of quitting this time may be entirely differrent.

I sure wouldn't like my friends going around and retelling strangers something I said in confidence after a few drinks. I'm a stranger to Bomber.

You are completely correct. And it's why I didn't go any further than posting the gist of the conversation.

In a previous life I was in a signals regiment and we were working on communication.
We stood in a line and the first person was told a story that they would whisper to the next person and on so to the next 20 people.

The original story was something like "enemy 12 o'clock, base of large oak tree. Cover at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Gunner at 10."

By the time it got to the end it was "party at glovers house, everyone needs to bring a tree. We're gunna get there at 10 but there's a cover charge if you get there after 9"

I have no contact with this person anymore. It was third hand. It wasn't business. This 23 year old blonde spends some time with bombers mate who has a suite at crown. Hence some wording could indeed be wrong, as could strength of comment. But I questioned it twice.

It was definitive, he did not want to go on.

I guess there's reasoned speculation and away with the pixies speculation. Sending up the latter seems fair enough. But an essential ingredient is a sense of humour.
