To those who were actually there today, why were you booing Ablett?

Not having a go, I’m genuinely curious.

The TV commentators decided somehow that it was due to him liking an Instagram post from Folau. Call me naive, but I wouldn’t have thought that’d be enough to get a significant portion of our crowd booing him.

Has he done something in particular I’ve missed, or is it social commentary?

Meaning Watson brought it up fishing for a story like Goodes, but this time about religion not racism.

The idea that everyone was booing him for the same reason is a foolish one. But that's the kind of thing the media likes to run with

What's wrong with booing player on the game? It's a form of expression. Booing imho is still better than shouting swearing words on him. He's not the only player exclusively booed on the ground though. If you guys remember Hodgey, Mitchell, Buddy and even Cyrill booed by the opposition. Last week Sicily was booed constantly by Saints supporters, where's the outcry from the league?

I didn't booed him today, but in the past I booed him only when he received free kick for flopping or any undeserved free kick.

If he got booed on the street that's different story.

I don't think the footy public is woke enough to unanimously, and spontaneously decide that liking a tweet that shows fundamentalist religious ideals needs to be addressed with loud vocal booing.

It's your classic villain style booing. Ablett looks a bit like a supervillain.

It’s really started last year in the corresponding game where he flopped 2 times in contests and the umps came over, dusted him off and handed him two goals. One of them was close to the worst flop I’ve seen. It was shown on the big screen and we’ve booed ever since

It would always be hard to ascertain whether or not the booing was due to his liking of the Folau post. As Gralin mentioned above Hawks fans have booed him well before today, in his early cats years, at the suns and since his return to the cats for various footy based reasons ie: flopping for frees or his habit of having influential games v the Hawks( annoying much). I just felt the grasping for the controversial angle from Watson ridiculous.
