I'd like you to be right but week after week, our lack of small forwards shows up.
What to have had goal-kickers like Breust & Wingard yesterday.
We simply don't have the speed nor smarts and no Gibbons, Polson nor ECurnow can really address this.

My Prediction: We'll be targeting small/medium sized goal-kickers at years end.....although I did say this before the season began.

I still believe it is a mixture of 2 main factors:

  • A young developing midfield that while our numbers are strong around centre/stoppage clearances, our delivery around the ground and especially into forward 50 is still largely inconsistent and somewhat poor. We have not won any inside 50 differential this year and despite breaking even against the Swans, it further embellishes the -8.3 inside count as a whole, so it is extremely hard when you have less opportunities. While our ball movement and negating opposition spread has improved in recent week, it still has a way to go.
  • Then you have the age and experience differential in the forward half, let alone around the ground. While you would concede the talent is better in players such as, Breust 28, Wingard 25, Puopolo 31 and even a mid such as Shiels 28 drifting forward, comparing that with Gibbons, Polson, Cuners, Ed and the injured Pickett, Lebois, while playng Garlett out of position, it highlights how inexperienced we are in that forward half, especially when adding Charlie, Mitch and Harry.

I still believe our priorities are elite runners and users of the pill, that aren't necessarily elite, Cunningham from the Swans , Newnes, Tomlinson. Of course one of Kelly, Coniglio would be ideal. They would help increase our ball movement and the flow on effect of more inside 50's would be beneficial. The most important aspect of adding a couple of these players, would be releasing a better quality of talent to the forward line more often, Fisher for example

It might surprise that our disposal versus scoring shots is actually tracking well compared to other sides, apart from the Tigers game

Lastly, while I am confident that TDK is being groomed to take over from Kruezer one day, we do need to add a B/C grade ruckman that is competent as a resting forward, while moving on Lobbe/Phillips

While the likes of a Gresham, Rioli etc would strengthen our forward line, until we address/develop other areas, the outcomes might be similar

Do you reckon we do that via the draft or Trade/FA?

If the latter, who do you see as targets?

I'd like to see if we can pry Papley out of Sydney. Surely their exodus continues at end of this year.

More than likely. These performances are really starting to shit me . 18 years of beltings are starting to take toll - i really want to take my 6year son to a game and see him smile at our beloved club, but its not looking likely for some time unfortunately
