Carlton's window opens in 2012 and should be open until around 2017-2018.

Given the amount of time that our development has taken and considering where Melbourne is in terms of their rebuild, I would full expect them to be ready to start their charge at a flag in about 2015. That is also taking into consideration the compromised drafts for the next 2 years.

At the end of the day, Sheahan is a hack journo and while he does know something about football, he is constantly putting down Carlton and bigging up everyone else.

**** him... and **** the rest of them! We are Carlton!

I think your window will open earlier ( next year ) and will only last for a few years tops. Not many teams bar Geelong and a maybe couple of others last decade had a window of more than 2 or 3 years. Very hard to have a premiership window open for 6 or 7 years.

Also Melbourne are better than you think

Right.

Name their ruckmen and tall forwards.

Flog.

And Carlton aren't exciting like the Demons. ;) :o

Why get defensive and agitated at my comments. I was just stating an opinion.

Pehaps if you came back to me with a sensible comment/rebuttal we could have a sensible discussion

This one's my favourite.

Consistently excellent : Downhill skier

You've got to be joking
Davey is a silky smooth player, no doubt.

But to compare him -a comparative flash in the pan - to 100+ games of solid contribution, of odd matchwinning excellence, and of a sublime left foot of his own in Simpson is utter disrespect to a player that does the hard yards week in week out.

Bit harsh calling Davey a flash in the pan when he's actually played more games than Simpson has (130 to 121).

I didn't mean to be insulting, but your opinion is shit.

This year is the last true year of our development, next year we will be working on our overall consistency and we will be a top 4 team, but we wont be genuine contenders for a flag because of the consistency issue.

2012 will be the year when everything clicks, we will have a good core of players with over 100 games and mature bodies. Ratts will have also aged a couple more years as a coach and will be the better for it.

I am not discounting Melbourne, but I think that we have a differing set of opinions of where they are standing right now. They are not as far developed as a lot of people think and have a massive group of inexperienced players (Carlton 2.5 years ago). They will be better next year, but they wont be playing finals for a couple more years at least. And even then, they wont win one in their first time in at bat.

2 years in the system this year has shown sweet f all for a number 1 pick. He will be spuds for sure.Their has been no player in AFL history that has come back to be a great player who hasn't shown some great things in games. He might just might be a handy player at best like a Wiggins but i reckon Wiggins would be a better player when both careers finish.

Leigh Matthews and I agree on the same principle on how clubs thought he was going to be a super star.Leigh Matthews and Kevin Sheedy are 2 very great players/Coaches who really hit the mark when they find players and judge them.

I stand 100% on Matthews comment he looks likely to be only a ok player at best.I see a lot more in Jack Hawkins then Jack Watts and he isn't as good as most thought he would be.

You should change your nickname to Sidchrome... once a tool always a tool.

Watts is going to be a lot better player than you expect... if he is allowed to develop into his position at his own speed instead of being rushed into things.

So it's Scotland and Houlihans final years next year, ey Mike? Guess we better get organising the send offs then?

Houlihan is in the best form of his career and doesn't turn 30 til January 2012. He's a pure outside player so he could easily play until 2015.

Scotland is hard as nails and I wouldn't be surprised if he pushed it til 2013-14.

Mike Sheehan looks like a complete dick on this one.

I've learned that if Collingwood was in our position they'd be exciting with the journos wanking over them. Being Carlton it's more a case of looking at the negative side.

Case in point. Luke Darcy on Ch.10 named 6 sides that could win the flag and put a red line through 10. One of those 10 were Carlton yet he named Brisbane as one of the 6 that could. The same side that's lost 5 from the last 6 and getting thumped by the Roos by 7 goals during the 3rd qtr so far tonight. If Colingwood were in Carlton's position (or the Bulldogs of course), up and coming in the development stakes, I bet there'd be no red line.

I'm also betting I'll kick the Lions in gear for the rest of the night after my above comment...lol!!!

Darcy really made a dill of himself stating that Brisbane was one of the teams that could win the flag. We all know that you need to make the Top 4 to have a realistic chance of winning the premiership & the Lions won't do that. In fact they potentially won't make the 8.

We'll give Darcy the benefit of the doubt - he is quite possibly Chris Judd's biggest fan - obsessed would be an understatement.

Watts has been in the system for 1 whole year. He is a KP player who will eventually be a star... but it will take a couple more years.

Thanks for your input, the door is over there.

Not that I want to back up the socket set but Watts is still purely just potential but does look good when he has the ball (plenty of time). .. However I understand he is not known for putting in the yards at training and is more pure natural talent, so he still has some way to completely fulfilling that potential. .. Where as Hendo who has less obvious natural talent looks like he really has to work for it which could be a good sign. .. They both are still only potential atm though. ..

Agree with you 110%, I was was watcing this with my old man and we both thought that was a very stupid call.
I don't think we'll win the flag but we're definitely a better chance than the lions.

They are currently sitting out of the 8, might not even make the finals.

What Luke fails to take into account is that Brisbane might not make the eight.

Oh, Luke. You smug-ugly parasite. Use the force of your personality, Luke. You're a boring w***er. And you hate Carlton. Just admit it. It's okay. Breathe, Luke. We're not hiding in your sock-drawer. We're not interested in your flat and mediocre performances in the box. You're a spud. A slow plodder. And yet, you're clearly in love with yourself. I don't know what you see in yourself, Luke. I really don't. I'm sorry. Maybe it's the wine talking, Luke. But why don't you just give a fair and unbiased call of a Carlton game? You've concocted the idea that your viewpoint is important. Why did you lavish praise on Carlton's opponents at every opportunity yet remain silent about Carlton until Chris Judd got into the game and then attribute Carlton's lead to the efforts of this one man? What the hell is wrong with you, Luke? The game has passed you by. Time to take up that acting career your dashing looks and impressive physique so obviously warrant, Luke. Just think of having your very own changing room, Luke. Everywhere you look a mirror. Luke Darcies as far as the eye can see. Breathe, Luke.
