Both West Coast and Fremantle to have 7 straight games in Perth during WA Hub

Which according to the AFL, games in Queensland do count being at home.

In the same way Richmond & Collingwood plays a game "at home" at Marvel every season & Hawthorn plays games "at home" in Launceston. If it means Freo only has seven games in WA this year, that's just part of the competition in 2020.
If I had a dollar for every time I've read this complaint on BigFooty since October I'd probably be able to buy Marvel Stadium

Why wasn't this a bigger deal when the fixture was made in October 2018 and only after Richmond started winning.
Noone looks at other clubs fixtures - you are too busy looking at your own and trying to figure out the wins and losses and getting that wrong.

Considering North Melbourne is a Marvel tenant & Hawthorn often plays 1 home game at Marvel a season if the Fremantle game was moved back to Victoria it'd still most likely get played at Marvel anyway ;)

But in the interest of FAIRNESS I think that home teams should be allowed to choose where they play their home games and not have it dictated to them by the away team.
Id agree if the gf was rotated or held at the highest ranking teams oval - but its not - so we need to play mcg games.

youvictorians are the ones that keep defending your ten team state - you guys are welcome to take the hit of playing away from home to pay for it.

dont ask us to

Might have something to do with the pathetic way the VFL is running the game..

Thread is about how West Coast & Fremantle gets 7 straight games in Perth---- somehow this is a #VICBIAS injustice

In the interest of FAIRNESS it makes 100% sense. We could play more than once a year at the MCG instead of Tassie and Darwin, ya know, where the next 50 GF's are. If that's not proof there is a Vic Bias............
Plenty of ways that could be scheduled. Love your "proof"

So this is what it feels like to be Richmond
Soz but we can’t entirely relate unfortunately. Richmond had 3 neutral games and 4 games with home ground advantage in our 7 MCG games in a row. This is 1 neutral game and 6 games with home ground advantage for both teams.

Plz let us know how amazing it feels to have such a draw!

I'm sure that given the comparisons with Richmond that keep popping up in the thread that many of them are neutral games against other local teams, right?

I don't understand how people seem to miss the point of angst when Richmond/Collingwood MCG games is mentioned - Whether or not the MCG games are legit home ground advantage or 'neutral' is irrelevant - It's the copious amount of practice and familiarity at the GF final that other clubs will never have access to

Freo & West Coast having 7 home games in a row then having to play a GF at the MCG is not comparible
The only way to give other clubs practise at the G is for the tenants to play more games there what a conundrum.

Personally I'm not so worried about the whole playing games at the G thing. As most physical/medical staff throughout the AFL agree, it's the travel that kills you. If only teams like the Eagles and Dockers could stay at home and not have to travel for 17 out of the 23 weeks like some clubs. That would have the single biggest effect on levelling competition parameters. I just don't know how we could get to a draw where that is addressed in some way. Even partially addressing it by coming to a sensible realisation that these away/neutral games are in reality another week at home for that club, not financially of course, but physically, mentally and performance wise, would be a start.
Any way you cut it, as acknowledged by most staff within the AFL, the negatives of travel are a major differential faced every year by the Western seaboard sides. How could it be addressed?

So far this year travelling teams have been doing better than expected. Other than West Coast.

The most effective way to prove how negatively impacted the WA teams are by travel is to become dominant and win consistently when they only have to take 2 flights (one to Queensland, then one home) within 3 months.

West Coast is travelling bloody ordinary, that's not debatable really. I'm more talking about people whinging they are getting to stay home for a bit eventually. The reality is it's still not even close to being home for 17 out of 23 weeks in a regular season. That's nothing new though, it's been a known disadvantage since Western Seaboard sides entered the comp. Is there not some way it could be addressed, even partially?

This season needs to abandon a Home and away fixture and instead move to “travel vs Non Travel” to account for hub games. Is fairer on the interstate teams and also just necessary. This is what it looks like so far.

Non-Travel Vs Travel up to Round 7:

TeamNon-Travel (“Home”)Travel (“Away”)

Adel25

Even with this run of 7 games, WCE would be 8 Non Travel, 5 Travel and Freo 7-6. And they will most likely be playing the last 4 away again so both teams will still have more travel games than not.

Richmond on the other hand with 6 non travel matches already.....that’s going to be 13-15 non travel games most likely 😂

That’s always going to be the way when you have ten Victorian teams. The fixture just doesn’t work when you try to cut it evenly this way.

Maybe hubs is a clue. When teams travel to a state, play 2 teams before returning. It would be worth establishing a training oval/gym/hotel arrangement in victoria for this. Not so much the other states, although WA with burswood and gold coast with the pines would be easy.

It would almost halve the travel for all teams

find a spar billion and provide a third stadium (50-60k) in melbourne for the current MCG tenant to play home games. Then ration out the MCG to all teams say 3 games each
