Bower and Grigg - unsung heroes!

I'm really enjoying how these two are playing their footy. The go in, clear the ball and most of all CONTEST! Their attitude is great, and sure their skills aren't so crash hot yet, but they are improving all the time, as is their decsision making. they are really tightening up our defense, and the real tests will be when we play good sides...

Now compare these two to the 'silky skills' of Ryan Houlihan. He's been doing similar roles for the last couple of years, is sfoter than butter but everyone loves him as a valuable player. These two have really busted their asses compared to the 'easy receiver' of Houlihan.

when he comes back from injury, Ratts should put him up forward, but if he doesn't use his 'silky skills' with less pressure on him, I reckon we should trade him to the Saints so we can pick up someone like goddard.

I feel that Grigg hasn't had the recognition he has deserved from the Carlton faithful
He is easily in our top 3 Most Improved Players for 2008.

agree and agree. I actually reckon bower's decision making and foot skills are pretty good. He is actually very good on his left side as well. I know Wayne Hughes has copped a bit in the past but he has got it right with these two imo.

Both of these guys always had the talent

what was required was the 2 to play approx 20 games and stick by them and they would show there worth

one thing i hate is i cant tell them apart sometimes as they both have similar shape and 16/18 numbers looks similar from a distance!!!

Bower is acknowledged by most as our most improved player, and great to see him develop so quickly.

Grigg's coming on well, and being a relatively early pick I suppose it's to be expected. If he can sharpen his disposal a bit we will have aa handy player on our hands.

Would be nice if you could make the post without insulting the guy who has played more in the navy blue than any other current player though...undermines an otherwise reasonable post.

Lets remember though that bower was a bottom age recruit so he probably wasn't ready in his first year and at times last year and Grigg is in only his second year.

We can blame pagan though for recruiting Martyn, Mclaren, Johnson, Kenna Mott, Ackland, Harford, Clarke, Saddington, Longmuire, Teague etc etc etc.

Grigg still underrated. I think his disposal is quite good and he isn't looking to play on every time he gets the ball which is great. Bower clearly the most improved. Go blues.

i just hope that with all the confidence these 2 have built over the season that they dont lose it all after the game with the Cats this week!

coz the cats will come out firing and definately our backline will be under pressure big time!

I agree that the kids are coming along nicely.......but for ffs why bag Houlihan who has had to stick it out during our worst era ever.

He may not be the toughest player going around, but he has been durable and more than handy at times.

Be a supporter and critic yes......but don't slag off at one of your own with a personal swipe......you kind of so-called supporters shit me off big time.

You'd be a great bloke in a team environment......I'd love to go to war with you not knowing whose firing what bullets.

Good to see you're capable of a positive post. Agree with everything you said RE: Bower and Grigg, but I think you're selling Bower's skills a bit short. Grigg's disposal issues stem more from a lack of confidence at AFL level, IMO, and now that he's beginning to gain that confidence, I reckon we'll his skills improve drastically.

I reckon Bower is easily our most improved player from last year. Has become a much more complete player down back, and really looking forward to see how much he develops further as the year goes on.

Grigg is slowly but surely learning the tempo of AFL footy, and looks quite comfortable accross half back. Does handball alot, but generally makes the right decision when he does.

Two very exciting prospects for the footy club.

On a seperate subject of sorts, I think Austin will develop in a similar fashion to Bower. Totally different players but I think they will take the same amount of time. They were both bottom aged players in their draft years and KP prospects who take a little time.

in a year or so austin will hopefully hold down chb and waite can go forward coz we will have thornton, austin, bower, setanta, jamison and bannister that can go down back
waite is a better forward option than setanta. setanta looks comftable down back

Why are people questioning their disposal?

These two hit targets as much as any good AFL player, Grigg has a very different kicking style (hand position on the ball) and makes his kicking look odd and Bower more often chooses to kick weighted passes rather than low bullets which requires more skill and judgement!

Either way they are great and what I love is that they are far from their best, it's a great feeling to know they are gonna be a whole lot better!

It's such a bonus when players are ready early for AFL and develop fast.
Kreuzer, Hampson, and Russell will all get there too, just not as fast, be patient Blues fans with the slower developers...
