I've seen a thread about every other player who is a chance for Round 1, now I want to get your thoughts on Dicky.

In the glimpses we got of him in 2007, we saw a player who was lightning fast, could kick over 50 metres off one step, and had that uncanny ability to crumb a goal out of nothing.

I havent seen him play this pre season, but from all reports his comeback has been nothing short of astounding.

I believe we need a small crumbing forward if Davis, Thomas and Didak are to remain up the ground or even off half back, and Dick fits the bill.

Question basically is; Should he play round 1?

I think Dick is as ready as Rocca is to play Round 1, and thats not completely great. He needs to continue to build his fitness up to AFL level to be ready to go. His body strength not being spectacular doesn't help either. Non the less, we'll be seeing him very soon as we do need someone of his calibre crumbing the footy forward of centre.

Brad Dick is in a league with Goldsack and Rusling as the most over rated player on Collingwood's list according to football forums.

I have seen him referred to as a future star midfielder. "Clearly in our best 22" and a host of nonsensical things like that. Brad Dick is a goal sneak and that is likely foward pocket / HFF. Long term he may pinch hit of the wing. His got great skills sure but we have no need for a foward pocket / goal sneak type even if all of Thomas, Didak and Davis spend more time up the ground they will all rotate through the fowardline too, on top of that we have Medhurst. Who doubles as a marking target. His still a long way off best 22 for mine.

Agreed, I think he'll spend the majority of the year in the twos, hes played 3 games and is coming off a knee reco ffs.

:eek:Sack is a gun

"I was surprised to hear Mick say a few weeks back that Dick is a huge chance for Round 1. Mick compared him to STeven Hille, not in talent, but in the way he marshalls the troops on field. He says he always makes something happen, and says he's in their best 22. That means if he can get back from that knee which he seems like he is doing, he will play a lot of senior footy this year"

Thats a quote from Jon Ralph during the live blog this morning, I really do think that if Dick can play 4 quarters this Friday, he is the smoky to play round 1, as I still believe we need a permanent forward pocket to supplement the coming and goings of Didak, Thomas, Davis, Medhurst etc.

And we play Adelaide in round 1, probably the slowest team in the league in regards to backs.

I realised how much Collingwood rated this boy after a press conference with Mick last year.

If Thomas makes the transition to half back, then Dick is the player I'd like to see on the half forward line.

He is one of those gifted players that only needs to touch the ball 10 times to have a real impact.

In short, I want Dick.

As far as I remember, Malthouse considers him part of our best side, or very close to it.

I'll see if I can find a quote.

Superb footskills aren't something I'd be saying no to, to be perfectly honest. He's on the fringe of our side for mine, VFL form pending of course.

Edit: The quote has already been posted it seems.

I am not singling out Dick with this comment, but we have many young untried players all who someone rates a chance to play AFL this season.

How the hell are we going to fit a reasonable number in, let alone most of them?

I would rather have this problem than the alternative but there is going to be some major head scratching going on.

At the very least the VFL side should be completely dominant if the reports and hopes come to fruition.

Ahh, it's so sweet to be spoilt for choice this way. Wankathon!

I'd also really like to see Thomas play down back given that's where our attack so often builds from and that Thomas is a great mark, kick and line-breaker. If Dick can play as a small crumbing forward with Leon in the midfield and Thomas down back, I could think of worse combinations.

Who does Dick compete with as a crumbing forward? Not many I would think outside of Leon and Thomas. Oh happy days!

If MM thinks Dick is that important to our mix thats good enough for me, and ShawThing i think its flippant to suggest because Dick is a forward pocket player that his possible influence on games is one you have brushed aside.
The teams inner sanctum obviously rate him and this doesnt happen purely on reputation, obviously they know what hes capable of and i would back them 100% if Dick was played rd1.
Players can and do come out of nowhere to play pivotel roles in this game and i would not doubt the clubs faith in playing him straight away one bit.

He's good enough to play, but i just can't see him squeezing into the best 22.

Personally I think Bennell looks like he will be a better prospect for the FP position. But saying that I would still like to see Dick given a go early in the season.

Size is the question mark and will remain so throughout his career, but cetainly has a heap of talent and if he remains uninjured I expect him to be given his opportunity throughout the year and play at least a handful of games.

Not ready for round one but will get his chance.

It's not about Dick's size, it's how you use it.

So i'm told.

Card?

Goofrey what does that mean?
Jon "Dr Manhattan" from the watchmen is always nude, and is blue

Godfrey really enjoyed that part of the movie i think lmao

Good to hear he played well today, I know its a lower level but he has shown in the past he has the skill, and MM has anointed him one of his favs, so if he is match fit, he has to be in our 25 for next week.

We do need players with speed and kicking skill, and the sooner Dick plays more senior football, the sooner he will be able to follow the likes of Thomas, Davis, Didak etc into the midfield.

I want to see him round 1, might have to wait for round 2 maybe.

I don't know Didaka. Doesn't it depend on the amount of space in the forward line and if you attack around the flanks , go down the corridor OR most importantly attack through the back line? And if Goldsack gets in the way, well then......

Gee....Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise that Gordon 'Nuts' Coventry does not play for us anymore ;)
