A good 60 metres, that was a great goal. It's such a shame he's had another setback as I had a feeling he was going to explode this year (not in a messy way of course). He is easily one of the most promising players at the club and already hugely important with the form Dids and Leon have shown in the middle. I hope that they still play a lot of midfield anyway this season, especially Didak.

How come it takes so long to come back from shoulder surgery?

I note that he was doing a bit of training during the week and seems to have a full range of movement of the shoulder.

Does it take 4 or 5 months to get the required strength back before playing?

The reason i ask is that i recall players like Wayne Carey seemingly coming back a lot quicker in the past.

Perhaps someone like TRS could answer this question?

Great vid Mars, thanks. I think Brad Dick is probably the most exciting young player on our list. A lot of attention on here goes toward Beams and Sidebottom, but I think Dick looks just as promising, and it's good to read in 'Side by Side' that Malthouse apparently agrees. A real shame that he got injured, was hoping for a big year from Dicky, at least he'll be fresh and ready to go mid season.

That goal really shut the swans supporters in front of us up that day. Cant wait to see him back.

On the injury lay off Kirby its mostly strength and the ability to raise your arms over head without pain, that takes the time

Carey missed 12 games when he did his shoulder in 1997, but he really wasn't right when he came back. He struggled to lift his shoulder above his head much in marking contests for the rest of that year.

To my knowledge, the reason Carey struggled was that he only had minor surgery on his shoulder, and the problem kept reoccurring to the point it went again in a prelim I believe.

As once again, this is only to my knowledge, but Brad Dick supposedly had a full reconstruction of the shoulder, which can take anywhere between 4 and 6 months to recover from. It seems now, about 2 months into recovery, that he is coming along very well, although Collingwood still list his return as sometime around mid year.

Probably also, Collingwood thought it better to have a full reco with Dick as the injury was discovered/occurred pre season and gave them time to do this, as to in my memory Carey did his injury early in the H & A season and therefore couldn't have a full reco done.

I'd say from the pictures I've seen that Dick is progressing well, but I wouldn't think he would be starting any physical contact work until at least around round 1 of the H & A season.

I had a shoulder injury which prevented me from raising my arm much more than 5-6 degrees above horizontal with any strength or purpose. It was also pretty painful.
I had a week off and then played with it for a month or so until it came good but it took a long time for the full strength to return.

Donga is reportedly coming along nicely though.

Ox is an idiot, four bounces my arse. It had two bounces and the third was after the line. How the hell did he get four.

Ox is an idiot no doubt. But an even bigger idiot is Tim Watson, who was the one who made that call.:p

Ox is a tossa. He really loves to hate us, every bloody year he thinks Carlton will finish above us

It's strange, because 4-5 years ago he was one of our biggest media backers, he kept talking us up and believed in us fully.

But I guess beating Melbourne repeatedly on their biggest day (Queen's Birthday) finally got to him.

As they say, you can take the boy out of Melbourne, but you can't take the Melbourne out of the boy.:p

Just a though, why hasn't anyone came up with the nickname;

BRADICKOULOUS.

(Pronounce Brad Dick You Less - Think Brad Dick mixed with Ridiculous)

Seems perfect for the amazing skills he has.:)
