I'll back Hodge to hold his own in the Shield better than the likes of Michael Hill or Alex Keath will.

Possibly but surely it is in the best interest of Victorian and Australian cricket for the younger batsmen to be playing instead of a 38 year old Hodge

If either of them were remotely deserving a spot I'd agree but neither of them are anything more than average grade cricketers at the moment.

Well the VICS have a grade cricketer as their captain so I fail to see why Hill, Keath and Finch aren't worthy a spot.

White averages 180 this year in grade cricket and has made runs in both of his last two shield games. Hill and Keath both average 31 this year in grade cricket. Finch has had plenty of chances in the Shield and has shown absolutely nothing in it this year (and not much beforehand either).

Two schools of thought here;

1. The Aussies are desperate - the cupboard is bare at the minute and so a quiet word has been directed towards Hodge to see if there's any interest, with Ponting gone there is no impediment to him being in the team.

OR

2. Hodge's ego is so massive and his grip on reality so limited that he floats the story to see if anyone calls.

"Would I like to play for Australia? Of course, everyone would," Hodge said after making 53 for Barisal against Khulna in Dhaka. "I probably deserved to play a little bit more when I had the opportunity. It seems that there seems to be a lot more rotating players than when I was in my prime.

Oh Hodgey...

I think we all know the answer to that.
Another thing that this summer has finally put to bed; Shane Warne is still Australia's best spinner, it's not 2006 anymore.

Thanks but no thanks, enjoy retirement you bitter man.

I have sympathy for many people that missed out during our golden era (mainly D.Hussey and MacGill), but not for this muppet.

I like David Hussey - always have but I've never felt that he was up to Test Class despite his first class record. For me he just doesn't get behind the ball enough and I reckon that's always been the knock on him.
