They say that we only use 10% of our brains. What fantastic powers could we harness if we could unlock the other 90%? Telekinesis? Flight? Time travel? We'd be immortal, all-knowing...we could be Gods!

Think of the problems we could solve, the people we could save, the power we could wield, the wars we could win! Think of the destruction we could wreak upon our foes, the terror we could strike into their hearts! We'd rip their soldiers apart with our thoughts, destroy their cities in towering conflagrations with nothing more than a nod of our heads!

We'd turn their very lives into a living hell of darkness, fire and howls of pain.

But how can we access our hidden potential? Even the most successful neuroscientists have yet to understand what our minds really hold within them.

My friends, I can show you what humanity is truly capable of. In fact, you've already shown yourself. When you sleep, your brain carries on thinking. The unused 90% awakens, and begins to work, shaping the future.

Most of the time, you slumber in ignorance, blissfully unaware of what's going on inside your skull. But now and again, a series of images will break through, and you'll see humanity's potential for greatness in all its shining glory.

No, friends, not your dreams; Your nightmares.

There's a reason the door to our real power is locked. Just pray it stays that way.

I think you might find that a lot of scientists think we only use about 1% of our brain capacity.

I would try to now say something funny but I have killed most of the 1% I had.

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that we use only 10% of our brains.

In other words, the statement, "We use only 10% of our brains" is false; it's a myth. We use all of our brain.

My opening post is purely hypothetical of course, to generate discussion if such things did exist.

If you google search this subject, you might find this snippet of information regarding the origination of the myth:

The 10% statement may have been started with a misquote of Albert Einstein or the misinterpretation of the work of Pierre Flourens in the 1800s. It may have been William James who wrote in 1908: "We are making use of only a small part of our possible mental and physical resources" (from The Energies of Men, p. 12) surgeon. Perhaps it was the work of Karl Lashley in the 1920s and 1930s that started it. Lashley removed large areas of the cerebral cortex in rats and found that these animals could still relearn specific tasks.

We now know that destruction of even small areas of the human brain can have devastating effects on behavior. That is one reason why neurosurgeons must carefully map the brain before removing brain tissue during operations for epilepsy or brain tumors: they want to make sure that essential areas of the brain are not damaged.
