Brainwashed by the Eagles???

Just wanted to chuck in my ten cents for what it's worth. I do think that it's a marketing tool for the Eagles. I hope that it will benefit some children along the way but whatever 'higher purpose' the club may have had they are not doing this without expecting some benefit for themselves.

What I am appalled at is that, according to the media, (scary to rely on that I know) is that the minister for education (or something like that) approved this proposal.

Regardless of who it was, WCE, FFC, Basketball, baseball, drug lords ;) whomever I do not think it should have been allowed in any case.

To me this is just another example of taxpayers dollars at work **NOT**. Just got to wonder about that side of it.

For me not having children it doesn't really bother me but I do think that the whole concept was not very well thought out on behalf of the people who approved it.

I don't blame the Eagles for thinking it up and wanting to market the club in anyway. They are not the public conscience. Those morons in Parli house are supposed to be responsible in that area.

BTW I do have a 4 yr old nephew but he was brainwashed by his (Matera loving) Aunty YEARS AGO. :D

I don't feel strongly about this one way or another - mild distaste probably best describes it.

Actually MM, I would have thought you would have enjoyed it as it simply reinforces your strongly held views on the Eagles corporate beast. Grist for the mill really.

When does the footy start again?

So if you think its going to affect your kids.. its must be a good marketing strategy!

Anyway whats all the fuss when the dockers are going to spend $200,000 on some projects including projects for secondary and primary schools. There going to deliver a motors skills program to more than 150 schools, ever thought this could be a marketing scheme rather than wanting to teach kids skills?

Fremantle district education director said he could see more pluses than minuses... so why don't we all move on :)

Those fools! Why couldn't they just deliver the latest shop catalogue and some pithy catchphrases about how the Dockers rock.

And it's "what's" and "they're." And "motor skills". See, you don't have to wade through my marketing guff to get an education from me.

By the way, we wouldn't be very happy if this was some religious outfit flogging their message in our non-sectarian, secular schools. Football, I keep hearing, is a religion.

I'm with Carny. This is even sadder than it seems.

Grist from the Satanic mills, Exeter.

Being an ex-teacher who couldn't hack it, you should be aware of what is considered best practice when it comes to teaching Mathematics in schools IP. Best practice incorporates the following:

1. Student mathematics achievement is directly affected by the extent of the students' opportunity to learn.

2. Students can learn both concepts and skills through problem solving.

3. Giving students an opportunity to discover and invent new knowledge as well as an opportunity to practice what they've learned improves achievement.

4. Long-term use of concrete materials is related to improved math achievemnet and improved attitudes toward math.

I think you will find that the booklet promotes all of these practices it is just that you and others have a problem with the way it is packaged. If the package came from somewhere such as Woolworths or Harvey Norman there wouldn't be the furore that is being exhibited.

Like I have said on many occasions the average person has no idea what commercial programs are already established in the school curriculum and what influences good pedagogy. Maybe this shift into education by the Eagles could establish a new paradigm of cooperation between schools and football clubs.

So there are two main outcomes for young Dockers supporters:

1) They hate the Eagles and therefore they hate the Eagles educational packages. As a result they shun these forms of mathematical education and become hippies.

2) They join the dark side.

Thankfully I’ve been able to brainwash my nephew with everything Fremantle, but my niece is wavering toward the dark side, could be time to take her to training to meet Clive (which could either convert her or make her an Eagle for life).

All I’m saying is that I agree with Imperial Purple in that this is not an innovative strategy, but a blatant rip-off of Nike’s “study guides” in US schools. For the record, if the Dockers took the same action, my view wouldn’t change.

I bet this wouldn't even be an issue if it was a promotion by the AFL, and the kids had the choice of either an Eagles, or a Dockers textbook. I'm sure much of the purple people's argument is fuelled by team bias.

Not really. The objection is to do with the content of the little booklet, which, if you ever get your hands on one, you will discover is little more than a catalogue of items available for purchase at the Waist Coats shop.

If it was an AFL exercise that offered every little kiddie the choice of their own football team, yeah, I might view it more kindly but not if stayed in its current format. It would have to be more than just another way to get the kids shopping.

You obviously did well at creative writing - what Milkman did on the holidays etc etc. Imagine the opponent's argument, and then defeat it. Hooray!

You can be sure of what you like. That's a great way to get through an argument.

As opposed to making ludicrous exaggerations, like comparing this promotion to smack dealers, or religious fanatics peddling their wares in schools.

Your argument seems a little more fantasy driven than mine.

Ahhh...it's all falling into place nicely. Our Machiavellian schemes to take the whole by storm by means of subliminal message packaging is coming into fruition. *Insert Mr Burns' patented 'Excellent' sound byte here*

I'd prefer the smack dealers:p
