I'm prepared to accept he is only 19, but gee too many mistakes week in week out, move him to a wing where he can use is leg & leg speed or something. Errors are just too costly!

I've been critical of him, but he was good today. His best game so far. Still a few mistakes, but not too bad. Deserves some credit.

19 years old, 17th game. He's had 21 disposals, taken 9 marks and laid 8 tackles. What were you doing when you were 19? If I had to guess I'd say not trying to make it as an AFL player? Yeah, he makes some poor decisions, doesn't execute as we'd like, but how else is the kid supposed to learn? Wait till he's played 50-100 games and then judge the kid. I'm still backing him to be an absolute weapon off half back when he learns his trade.

Happy with Maynard's progress, am convinced he'll have a very, very good AFL career. Technically he looks like a good kick, however is prone to a few turnovers, especially when going for short passes. Over time I think his aggression and long left peg will become real weapons for us.

Made a couple of erros but also made some really nice passes. He's definitely better than Langdon.

He is definitely better than Langdon but he does have a knack of turning the ball over too easily on short passes which is unacceptable at this level.
If he doesn't fix this, he won't last as a senior player in the system.

I'd like to see him play some reserves footy, seems to have been gifted games early in his career. Whether that's to fast track him I'm sure but today he was liability out there along with Oxley.

For me he gives up in second efforts and others are left to do his work. I don't like watching that.

We simply can't afford to omit him now based on what happened so will be carrying him again.

People are very harsh on this kid.

I've said this before but he lets himself down with a couple of clangers every match and these are usually shortish passes.

To me his technique is good but he lacks poise and this effects his decision making. The other thing I noticed is that he lacks the tank and is visibly knackered at times and it is literally the fact that he tries so hard that he wills himself to contests. The problem then is that he's fatigued if he gets his hands on it and this can result in error.

Time and experience will improve this kid immensely.

He makes a few mistakes every game. His turnovers are due to the occasional lazy execution - not inherently poor skills. He'll iron those out with experience and will form part of a solid first choice back six for a long time to come. People are far less critical of Marley these days, but he was our worst turnover merchant until he got games and pre-seasons pumped into him. Maynard has a different set of attributes but the same hard-nut approach.

Needs composure. That will come with experience. Can't question his attack on the ball which is why he should always be picked ahead of Langdon.

Maynard will end up being a gun.

It's telling that they had been gifting him games imo and that decision has been justified by the fact that he's steadily improved as the season has worn on.

Best game for the club yesterday imo and still so much more scope for improvement.

Howe, Maynard, Langdon, Reid, Scharenberg, Williams, Oxley - We are starting to have some really deep rebounding depth of half back which was a season ago a pretty massive weakness.

21 disposal at 67% DE, 9 marks, 8 tackles, 2 I50s, willing to take the game on, ran to support... think the kid just had his best game for the Pies.

Interesting about the fitness. If that improves, the poise and disposal will improve.

Interesting that we've had two articles in a day (this one and the Cloke one in today's H-Sun) that make a big point out of the player in question being dumb.
