Lets not make that mistake again.
We did it with Marley and Harry O, both with similar results.

Maynard's disposal and decision making is adequate for a defender - it is not at the level required for a regular mid. He's also a pretty good 1:1 small defender. Lets keep him on the B/HB lines, and allow him the freedom to run forward when the opportunity arises. He will get plenty of chances to get the ball with a bit of room running through the centre, or to take those booming shots from around the 50. (Similar to Ben Johnson's career).

DONT try to turn him into a midfielder - he just isn't that type of player.

With the greatest respect...he looks like a midfielder to me, just a big "raging bull midfielder"...like a Stewie Dew or maybe even (if we're super fortunate) like this bloke:

I just think it's all going to click for Maynard and he is going to become a great defender.

He was bottom aged and has really got so much experience already at such a young age. He has brain fades, but he also wins terrific one on ones and is never afraid to go back with the flight of the ball for a mark.

I just think at 21 he is already performing fairly well. Imagine at 25 how good he is going to be.

Things are hotting up nicely for Bruzzy, but he needs some tuition in 'suit wearing 101'.

Weren't he and Goodyear both spruiked as mids when drafted?

Was mainly a half back in u18 due to a lack of tank but got a go in the midfield late in his draft year when Brayshaw went out injured and performed reasonably well. He has potential to go through the midfield although not sure his tank would be ready for it full time yet.

Late in the season that toughness was on display as a midfielder, having shifted up the ground for the Dragons in the absence of injured skipper Angus Brayshaw.

Maynard (186cm, 88kg) played the role perfectly, using his speed (he's tested 2.98 seconds over 20 metres), poise and foot skills to make a difference with the ball, and his contested ball-winning ability to rip it out of packs.

In the last two finals for the Dragons he averaged 25 disposals and 11 handball receives, showing a step up in his ability to cover the ground. Across the season for the Dragons he averaged 22 disposals.

Do you even AFL?

Do you?

Tell me how you overcome Maynards, at times, poor/slow decision making, and at times, poor disposal, in the midfield?
Every small player doesnt automatically have to be moved to the midfield just because they are a good player.

Maynards skills are much better utilised in the back half, with the occasional run forward when there is space/time, allowing his deficiencies to be adequately covered. He continues to improve in the role that he has - why do people always want to change that?
Put him in the midfield from the start, and those things will very quickly be caught out.
