two points.

Brennan can't play on the tall forwards so we would have just another tall defender who is can't play on the big forwards. Or can he?

Why not trade Hampson instead of Jacobs. Jacobs will turn out better right?

Oh dear. You're asking for it, writing that on this board.

Brennan can play at either end or in the middle, his problem is he isn't consistent enough to hold his spot for long enough. With his defensive capabilities, I wouldn't be confident with Jared Brennan at CHB next year. I'd suggest if Carlton picked up Brennan, it would be with an eye to moving Waite to CHB and Brennan into Waite's role.

Jacobs and Hampson is an interesting one. Hampson has tremendous physical attributes, but as a late starter in footy, needs to be taught a lot. Jacobs doesn't possess the physical attributes, but has good footy nous and is a solid tap ruckman. At the moment, Jacobs is lightyears in front of Hampson as a ruckman, but with Hampson's potential, he could be anything.

I hope Jacobs doesn't get traded, as Carlton will be returning Kreuzer to the AFL via the forward line. It would be nice to have Hampson, Jacobs and Warnock to choose from in round 1 next year.

Ratts was on The AFL site today for half an hour was good stuff, but missed the start, he said Brennan's role if he was at Carlton would be on the wing/midfield with sometime drifting forward.

Dont think he can hold down a key position

Definitely where he'd be good for us. Now we just need them to get realistic about a deal and his salary.

Seems bizzare to recruit him as a winger,Gibbs,Simpson,Murphy,Ellard
Lucas,Grigg and Walker could play this role if its not back or forward whats the point.

This is Jared Brennan thread.....not a Brock McLean thread...

At the moment I see 4 players that will or are semi available that have appeal for Carlton:

Jared Brennan
Chris Tarrant
David Mundy
Andrejs Everitt

Unfortunately, I can't see us snaring two of the Freo's gun players, but I would be happy if we had a crack at all these players at some stage during the trade period.

Everyone has there opinin on players like Brennan, McLean etc. And we all dont agree, personally id be happy with Brennan, Tarrant and Everitt, Mundy has signed with Fremantle hasnt he?
Another point in recruiting these guys is at the end of trade week who will be gone from Carlton and what draft picks will we have?
With the right players and picks coming and going we could end up with all 3 and still have strong picks in the draft.
The question is who will be gone and what will we have?

No, most likely moving to Victoria. Rumoured to be meeting Carlton and Melbourne on Monday.

Should make an announcement next week.

i wish we wouldn't go after mundy. we have enough midfielders, look where gibbs has been playing lately when clearly he is suited to the midfield. In any other club Gibbsy would be playing midfield

Great, another skinny tall who can't play tall and is just an average midfielder/flanker. No thanks.

Decided to do a bit of research on Brennan. Here is a list of his B&F finishes & games played.
2003 - ?? (couldn't find B&F placing, 1st season) 7 games
2004 - 29th - 9 games played
2005 - 28th - 5 games played
2006 - 16th - 17 games played
2007 - 11th - 21 games played
2008 - 5th - 22 games played
2009 - 9th - 20 games played
2010 - 16th - 18 games played
Obviously discounting the early years, but hardly anything there that makes this bloke worth $2.5m & over a 4 year contract. Hope we don't pay it.
But good luck to him if he can get it. You're only in footy a short time, so you have to look out for number 1.

This argument is complete and utter rubbish, and that has been shown countless times on this board.

Why keep bringing it up?

You can never have enough quality midfielders.

Its not complete and utter rubbish. why bother going after another quality midfielder when we will still lose games because our defence is lacking and our forward line still often struggles. More midfielders will NOT help us win games.

You think by spending most of our salary cap on mundy, our backline and forward line problems will fix them selves?. When clearly our backline is crying out for a KPP

Getting Mundy won't prevent this. Tarrant will come cheap + another year into Bower, Jammo and co.

More midfielders we have have who are prepared to run both ways then the less murdered our defenders will get.

He is not an average midfielder/flanker.

Everyone was advocating the acquisition of Knights from Adelaide. Well Brennan would be pretty much playing the same role. Would love him at the Blues.

this is true, however we know fremantle aren't going to give him up cheaply and they will demand most of our draft picks and there are other clubs competing for Tarrant so we would have to hope we could have enough trade options for both players.

There is no way Tarrant is worth more than a late 2nd round, Mundy a 1st round.

So in essence if we trade Walker to Adelaide for a swap of first round picks + bock comp, we can then on trade those picks to Freo for those two.

Picks 14 + bock compo - Freo

Mundy + Tarrant - Carlton

Seems fair to me. Better than getting Brennan anyway and we keen our second round + 3rd round picks

Out First round pick, Walker, Bock Compo

In Mundy, Tarrant

Giving up Jacobs+Walker+P18+R3 pick for a decent midfielder and Tarrant who has maybe 2/3 years seems to be giving away a fair bit imo.

after seeing the interview with Ratten on afl.com and the fact that Mundy just signed I have a feeling we will be trying to do the following

1st round pick for Brennan
2nd round pick for Tarrant

we may still trade Walker, Jacobs, others and get some picks back (hopefully 1st round)

Not saying that I agree with it I just have a feeling that that is what the club will be trying to do

seems a fair assessment for all parties involved...as long as we get the early picks back.

Love how people say he can play, he's a good player, can play anywhere, then go to say he's inconsistant. His inconsistancy means he can't play and he can't play those positions. If a player is inconsistant then he's no damn good! If you play forward and only kick goals every now and then you can't play there, same with any other position. I think he's too soft for a midfielder and not big enough and strong enough to hold down a key position. This saying he's just like many other players on our list except without the excuse of youth for his deficiancies.

Sure there's a chance we can turn him into a useful player but people should not get their hopes up about him being the great white hope. I think he'd be handy but we shouldn't sell our soul for him. Who knows, maybe, just maybe we can make something out of him, but I'd save our trades till next year when something decent might some up and come our way.

Brennan would thrill us for the odd game, for 5 min here and there, then go missing. he will be more frustrating than anything.

I think a look at his B & F results at Brisbane will tell a story.

Not the slightest bit interested.
