IMO, I reckon the club is sticking to a well structured plan in terms of contracts and cap space.

We know there is a preliminary additional 600k for next season and beyond for the time being- it may increase beyond that.

I'm certain we have some of that saved up our sleeve for when Pendles, Cloke, Reid, Beams, Sidebottom, Wellingham etc all come out of contract next year.

We also would be playing "hard ball" a little more than normal to ensure more cap space remains available beyond the extra 600k which is why we aren't moving on Toovey's offer.

Clarke's addition won't mean too much on our cap squeeze as I'm certain Walshy and Perty would be maneuvering contracts around too to create space from within i.e. front loads, back ends, veterans list etc.

However, at the end of the day, I think the club is resigned to the fact that we have to sacrifice someone even if we do not want to which is why at the moment, no offer has been placed to Caff or J-Mac.

maccaffer is inj proned and we need cover 4 taz reid brown and to many young players will leap frog brent maccafer

1 serious injury in his 5 or so years at the club does not constitute as "injury prone" for Caff, particularly as it was his lack of a pre-season after post season surgery that affected him moreso than anything.

Warnock fills no need at Collingwood. He is a key back. In these spots we have Reid, Tarrant, N.Brown and even Keeffe. Forget about him, he has no chance of playing at Collingwood.

I just podcasted Jim Marinis (Tooves' manager) from the 11th of October and to be honest he sounded like a well spoken kind of guy.

I'm starting to think that Alan Toovey is walking, Jack Anthony style. We will not receive any compo for him. My gut feel and teams know this.

ok maybe not so inj proned but spends to much time in 2nds? and warnock on hawkins next years finals if needed???

I'm not too concerned yet over trading Caff or Tooves.

I think once a couple of the bigger deals go down we'll see some movement.
When Clark for example is taken the losers will look elsewhere.

If I was to guess we'll start to hear news on Tooves & Caff over the weekend.

We'll be sweet, although yeah, one at least is goneskis.:(

Disappointing that we have withdrawn any offer to Caff.

We should be doing that to Toovey right about now.

What will piss me off is if our dealings with Toovey ends up costing us a player who is desperate to stay, despite our treatment of him thus far (Caff). The double burn will be if it costs us both.

Time to withdraw any offer to Toovey and pitch it to Caff.

Yeah, I wonder if we could pitch it to Caff and just tell him to STFU about it until after trade week. We'd need Toovey to be kept in the dark that there's no money for him, so we could continue to seek fair compensation in trade for him.

Obviously this works better if there are numerous teams competing for his services, but unfortunately as he seems to think he's worth more than anyone else thinks he's worth, there won't be many.

I think a lot more will start happening once the bigger cards fall, in particular Mitch Clark.

My gut feel is we are going to the the "third club" to help get Ebert to Port and supposedly with WCEs interest in Caff we will send him that way and most likely we will have to settle for a pick in return to shed and make cap room.

AFL website says that we can only keep Caff if Tooves leaves. What's the two as a package worth? We'll ikely be in this scenario again over the next two years

its pretty poor form to give someone a contract then withdraw it......lift your game Pies!

Ps Putting it on salary cap pressure forced by having Elliott is crap - he will be on minimum

So we have salary cap issues so need to drop off a player yet the talk earlier this week was that the Saints were in big trouble with the cap.

Yet they gain 2 players onto the list and havent traded any players yet.

I'd prefer us to trade Toovey over MaCaffer if it comes down to trading out a player which it sounds like we need to.

This is how a professional manager handles his player and the media. Obviously, he has been working behind the scenes and has now come out and given us the facts as they stand right now.

I know which player Collingwood will be doing their best to support through trade week. Unfortunately, I think I would rather keep Caff but if it's keeping Pendles, Cloke, Thomas, Swan and co. together then sacrifices have to be made. We have no choice.

We may well have to sacrifice some players for others but I don,t think we should be forcing MaCaffer out before Toovey,I definately feel he should be the 1st one gone no matter what else happens.

I think its p*ss poor that we bring in Clarke and that then forces out 2 premiership players. I also think its poor that we offer Caf a contract and then withdraw it. Personally would rather keep Caf and Tooves and not recruited Clarke.

I'll personally be annoyed if Tooves is the cause of us losing Caf - c'mon pies get the deal done, show the greedy prick the door and use his freed up cash to put in front of a genuine guy who wants to play for the jumper.

No one knows why we withdrew the offer unless you are part of the inner sanctum at the club. Your assumption that Clarke has forced two players out is just that, an assumption & a pretty crazy one at that.

We will not know until later today what the club is planning so i recommend everyone take a deep breath.
