Based on Brown's comments, the Caff has to be promoted this week or he misses out for the year.

I think Maccaffer offers us the flexibility to trade Rusling. I don't think he is better than Rusling, but he offers us sufficient depth in the third tall department to be able to cover if several players go down. Having said that, I think Anthony is in front of both Maccaffer and Rusling for that role.

In addition, I expect the club will rookie that aboriginal half forward that was playing in our VFL side earlier in the year (can't remember his name). He showed good form, and then miraculously "went home for the rest of the season"... Even more depth in the third tall forward department. Need to trade our surplus for midfield talent.

hey guys i asked bluey mckenna about macaffer in the room.

he said two weeks ago they where looking at bringing him up and just told him,
mentally he didnt handle it to well and he had to off weeks in the vfl.

he said they at the end of the year would most likley bring him in,
and said a few of the vfl guys may be rookie listed for next year.

cheers

If this is the case, I would expect that aboriginal forward who went home mid year to be the player he was talking about.

Another third tall half-forward type. Any danger of midfielders?

even if he doesnt get on the senior list this year, doesnt mean he is definetly gone. Cox and toovey wernt elevated and they got promted at the end of the season, wellingham the opposite.

I can see us losing a few players in holland, lonie, iles, cox/stanley/toovey/cook(probably 2 of) egan, wakes/presti(one of).

So thats seven, elevate wellingham and McCaffer, so 5 draft picks 4 still live given we take Reed with our last, and we get 1 live rookie pick given we choose Keefe with our last.

Thats pretty good.

In saying al of that i would like to McCaffer get a go in the seniors this year

The mecurial Liam Jurrah is the bloke I am talking about. Expect him to get rookied.

he went home barely half way through the year to be with a sick friend.

I dont think he really wants to be play AFL for a living, and that is entirely his choice

I know, but there is the possibility that that is what the club wants everyone to think.

Firstly, I think everyone would agree that he showed a great deal of promise in his time at the club.

Therefore, an alternative theory could be that he had shown enough in the half year and the club decided to send him back to Alice Springs to guard against other clubs becoming too interested in him.

If McKenna suggested that there may be rookie listings from the VFL players (and if we were to take him at his word) then in my opinion, Jurrah has been the only one to show enough promise.

And regardless, if he did just go back home to be with a sick friend, does that make him completely untouchable? He doesn't have an AFL career, and we don't know how sick his friend is. There is nothing wrong with going home from playing non-listed VFL footy to return home to be with someone who may mean a lot to him.

If he has the talent that everyone says he has, I say let's rookie him and give him a chance.

Wrong, lists are closed for the year.
MacAffer cannot be elevated this year
Interesting, why would Brown after the VFL game on the weekend say that this week is the last week it can be done. Dissapointing if what ur saying is correct mate.

well if its true we cant elevate him, then my point earlier becomes all the more important.

He still can be and probably will be elevated after our delisting is done

If we can promote Macaffer this week I think we should give him the opportunity to reward his form. With Didak out, we saw Thomas move back to the midfield against St Kilda with some good effect. Medhurst can move up onto a flank where Thomas had been playing and Macaffer can slide into a pocket. I believe Medhurst had originally been training with an eye to moving further up the field so he gets an opportunity.

Thomas gets the more midfield exposure which he needs to continue his development, Medhurst gets up the ground to use his skills delivering inside 50 which can only help the transition to AFL Level for Dawes and Macaffer.

I'm not sure in my mind yet whether Didak should be traded but if we are to entertain offers we need to test the waters of a future without him.

The concept of "Lists are now closed" is too much for you to understand?

That would have been why I used the word 'if' at the start.

My apologies for any offence caused. I did not mean to insinuate that I did not believe you....

Are you able to tell me when lists were closed? If it was after we suspended Shaw and Didak then it was negligent of the club not to promote Macaffer in case we needed him.

I think they closed Sunday (or maybe Monday)
No offence caused to me, my friend and certainly no need to apologise. :thumbsu:

You can promote a rookie at any time. The list closed applies to dropping somebody to the LTI list to make room in the first place, which has been done with Rusling last week.

McAffer can play this year if needed.

OK, if that is correct (which I don't think it is) then I am wrong.
Thank you for pointing out the error of my ways TfT (perhaps)

Well then IF that is the case then play him. Might as well get a look at him before we make the decision to elevate at season's end or not.

With Brodie Holland being ruled out for the rest of the year through injury - Macaffer could potentially be put on the senior list and play this year.

MacAffer cannot be elevated this year
Check your facts, CTA.

Tigers elevate rookie - HUN page 101 today

"Richmond was the only club to elevate a player from the rookie list when long-term injury listings closed yesterday. The Tigers brought up former Essendon ruckman Tristan Cartledge to replace Kayne Pettifer, who suffered a knee injury a few weeks ago. Cartledge, 23, played seven games for Essendon from 2005-06. He spent a season at North Ballarat in the VFL last year before the Tigers placed him on their rookie list.
Collingwood put key forward Sean Rusling - sidelined since reinjuring his shoulder in Round 1 - on the long-term list, but will keep its options open. One rookie putting up his hand for senior elevation is forward Brent Macaffer, 20, who kicked eight of Collingwood's 11 goals in its narrow VFL loss to Werribee at the weekend"

- Michael Horan

So, as I said, it's not a matter of when MacAffer can be elevated, it's a matter of the cut-off for adding players to the long-term injury list. As we've already done that (placed Rusling on the LTI list) we can elevate MacAffer whenever we want.
