RICHMOND star Brett Deledio will return to the midfield next year after several seasons playing across the half-back line.
Coach Damien Hardwick said the recruitment of a number of quality ball users meant Deledio, 24, would get his wish to play in the middle.
"With the players who we've brought in - with the addition of Steven Morris, Brandon Ellis has come in there and we've got Bachar Houli and Matty Dea - we probably think Brett will play more midfield next year than he has previously," Hardwick said yesterday at the Richmond training camp in Tucson, Arizona.
"But the challenge is well and truly there. He would like to play midfield, and he's going to get his opportunity, but he needs to show that he's capable of playing with Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Nathan Foley and the players we've got in there.

Dream teamers, load up. Lids is going uptown

You were going well until you got to the highlighted part.Deledio, Martin and Cotchin alternating between midfield and forward line. Foley to take another step up to reach AA form again. Conca and Helbig to get bigger and stronger. Arnot, Houli and Ellis to add nice depth and Jacko to continue to improve his composure, field kicking and leadership(just stop getting reported)![]()

Nah I'm confident he can be part of our 22
I squeezed him out of the 22 after the 2010 season, but I honestly thought he looked more composed with the ball in 2011 and I don't think he sprayed a single kick either. He's back in the 22 for me, while Tuck and Grigg can wait at Coburg in case of an injury![]()

One if his biggest problems last year was trying to break tackles without even considering disposing of the ball. Numerous times he would try to bulldoze thru 2 or 3 opposition players and then look at the umpire for the free when tackled, has to be better than that!
Except when shooting for goal and trying to pass
other than that his kicking was good
The only pass that I can remember that was cut off was the one against Carlton late in the season. There was one time against Geelong where he tried to take on a player and was caught holding the ball. Otherwise I was happy with mostly everything else. He missed a number of goals but none were really easy from what I remember. Mainly long shots or difficult shots from the boundary. He mainly kicked the easier ones though which he would have missed in previous seasons. Dunno how anyone hasn't noticed these improvements. I dunno how anyone could think he was better in 2009 and 2010. He sprayed kicks on the full, missed sitters for goal, got caught holding the ball a few times in those years. 2011 we barely saw this. The only thing that held him back a bit in 2011 was being in rehab for 3 months of the preseason but it didn't seem to interrupt his season, maybe just holding back his fitness. He'll be fitter this year if he doesn't do him hammy in the preseason again. At 25 and improving, his size and experience will be important from now on. I'm hoping he keeps Tuck and Grigg out of the side because those 2 have done some real bad turnovers over the past season or two, especially Grigg. How much of a liabilty was Grigg in that dreamtime game, 3 shocking turnovers by foot and a goal given away for deliberately rushed behind because he was too scared to kick the ball. Not afl standard
Your memory might need boosting, how did he go in the game against Norf?

Final game of the season? Might have to watch it again and let you know
I do remember he got caught holding the ball the first time we played them though. There were only 4 or 5 times I was disappointed in a situation he was in all season. That's at least half of what happened in 2010 and also 2009

"Earlier this year he said he wanted to finish his career at Richmond."
Is what it says in the Herald Sun article. Does that mean that he wants to be a one-club player or that he wanted to leave? You could really take it two ways, but I guess if he meant that he wanted out, the media would be all over him and linking him to GWS.
Without wanting to alarm anyone Tom Scully also said at the start of the 2011 season that he too wanted to be a one club player and could see himself finishing his career at the Demons."Earlier this year he said he wanted to finish his career at Richmond."
