DAMIEN Hardwick didn't take long to make an impression on me.
It was late in 2009 and he had just been appointed as Richmond's senior coach.
Back then my hair was long and scruffy and I had a beanie on when we crossed paths.
Dimma hit me up straight away: "What are you doing with your hair, man?" was the opening line.

Hope you guys don't mind me starting a thread on your board. I just had a read of Deledio's article on the Heraldsun website and thought it was great/fascinating read.

What an absolute legend...him or Cotchy for next captain, either are fine by me. Deledio though is my favourite player!

I enjoyed reading it, but I am not sure whether anyone from any other club would give a toss. It was a bit self indulgent. More suited to the RFC website than a daily newspaper, but I am not complaining (actually I am, but not deliberately).
And I am getting a bit sick of footballers dissing the game of netball and fobbing it off as being soft. Surely he could have used another analogy to describe a soft sport? (that's the critical journo in me coming out).

It was a good read, but i'll say this, Iddy and i were vindicated in that article. We have both stated he looks disinterested and it didn't feel that he bled yellow and black. That parts about 2009 said as much. Having said that, i'm glad he currently is having possibly his best year for the club.

Agreed. I thought it was a bit disjointed, obviously he wrote it himself, but surely they could have gotten someone to edit it a bit better. All up though, rather insightful and an enjoyable read even if it was not the best piece of prose going around.

Yes, very interesting. Good to see him putting his hand up to say it was true. He is a very confident player, but good to see he also has some humility.

Excellent read! Good to see the club helping players to be leaders and men. Brett sounds like a good character. Character, something the club and players have endorsed openly.

Yeah, off memory, i was critical around the time, and i reckon Iddy's watched him longer than that. There was just something missing in the bloke. But, now as a player, it just looks like he really needed to commit. Which it seems mentally he has done. We all knew he had talent to burn, but, with unsuccessful clubs, there's always that fear, they'll go. Glad he didn't.

I hate co-captains but I don't think I could handle it if one of Cotchin or Deledio are never captain during their prime :(

co-captain is what clubs do when they aren't tough enough to make a selection. Co-captain is stupid unless you are in a clear development phase a al GWS or Melbourne right now. Give it to one or the other. Personally I think Lids will be stiff to miss out but how could you go past Cotchin? A great dilemma to have, so used to it being a one horse race.

Lids seems to have a cheeky side to him where whenever I (bias) see Cotchin in the media, he's always professional and courteous. He seems to represent the club with the greatest respect to how people will see him and I will love to see him as Captain, but not for a long time yet with Chris holding out for another 5 years and a few Premierships :D

That said I don't think it matters if Lids isn't Captain. The team relies so much on the leadership group all around the ground, representing the team both on and off the ground. Having so many quality leaders can only be a good thing, especially in the way they're sharing their views and taking criticism.

Yeah co-captains are not required... I've posted this before but what the hell...
Deledio would make a fine captain - It's just that Cotch will make an even better one.
(And that is coming from a long time & vocal fan of Lids)
