Well I'm always vocal in other peoples threads, and have never put myself out there before. I'm definitely not an expert here, despite how active I am. Anyway, here's my first Phantom Draft. I'll possibly do another after the U19 Championships and definitely do another after the trade period, when the draft order is more set.

There were a few spots and teams where I had a little difficulty slotting players in.

The first was Essendon at pick 10. I really wanted to select Rachelle here, but went with a tall inside mid. Richmond's second selection was another tricky pick, Rachelle or Wilmot.

I've highlighted the players who have been bid on and matched.

1. Collingwood: Nick Daicos
2. North Melbourne: Jason Horne
3. Hawthorn: Finn Callaghan
4. Western Bulldogs: Sam Darcy
5. Adelaide: Josh Goater
6. GWS Giants: Josh Gibcus
7. Gold Coast: Josh Sinn
8. Carlton: Ben Hobbs
9. Richmond: Matt Roberts

More about who might select him.

I rate Goater pretty high, and he more suits Adelaide than what Roberts does. Carlton, Richmond and St Kilda were chances. Richmond probably should have selected him, as he’s done more this year than Sonsie.

As a complete aside because it just popped into my head, I really like how ModernArtillery justifies where he positions each player in his rankings, and I think there's an opportunity to do similar in phantoms. It obviously adds to the work but could also prompt more compelling discussion around how particular players fit specific club needs.

Good effort briztoon
I would be furious if Richmond picked Sonsie, especially that high.
i agree with your comment that if Rachele or wilmot were there at tigers 2nd pick it would be difficult, i just think with the glut of little def richmond have that rachele would be the pick. I definitely think wilmot is a gun and deserves a pick around that mark however.
I like the fact you had a crack finally. :D :thumbsu:

Who’s Judd Mcvee ?
East Fremantle mid. 2019 U16 AA. Somewhat similar type to Serong. Smaller mid who can win his own ball and burst from the pack.

Well done briztoon, re Brisbane's selections I know of Jack Williams and don't mind the selection but would prefer Darcy Wilmot who went at the next selection, never heard of Joshua Browne.

Interesting that you have Sam Banks falling a fair way.

Hey Jason mp, where our picks currently sit is sort of right around where one tier ends, for me. We might get a slider, such as Rachelle.

Unfortunately all the mids I really like are gone by our first pick, with the three players I like there being Williams, Rachelle and Wilmot.

But my gut feel is that it will be Sonsie who slips, and one of Rachelle (most likely) or Wilmot might go before our picks.

I also feel like Richmond might want a key forward in this draft, to start planning for life after Riewoldt.

Which is why I went Williams first. And because Richmond selected Wilmot, we couldn’t select him at our second pick.

Our second pick was a hard selection for me. Personally I would take Rachelle, but he might not be the type of kid our recruiters look at. Essentially we have two Coleman’s and Ah Chee already competing for a half forward spot, where I expect Rachelle would start his career, though long term I expect Rachelle to progress like Bailey, playing both as a half forward and through the midfield.

Joshua Browne is an East Fremantle mid racking up huge numbers in the WAFL Colts.

It was either Browne or Ned Long at our second pick in this phantom draft.

Oh, as for Banks falling. It was largely based on perceived needs and there being a couple of other hbf’ers rated there abouts as well.

Can you shed some light on JC?

22. North Melbourne: Judson Clarke
Easiest to read AFL Draft Central.

Mid forward from Dandenong who’s been in good form in the NAB League. He’s got lightning pace, agility and skills. Works hard offensively and defensively. Kicked a bag in the Vic Country v Metro trials a few weeks ago when he spent more time forward.

Not really a need for us. Stephenson, Thomas & Scott can all play that role. We need help at both ends of the ground with KPP.

Would Brisbane consider trading up with their 2 first rounders? Every draft i have seen recently has some of my favourite players going to you. I'm really liking the grouping of players at the back end of the 1st round

Would have gone a KPP, but there really aren’t many at this stage.

Unless you manage to trade in to the later part of the first round.

Would have to be a live trade on the night. If it got us Goater or Sinn, and a second round pick, I would make the trade.

Would the Brisbane recruiters, don’t know.

Interested in who you would have looked at, at that point in the draft.
Ned Long, Connor MacDonald, Jye Amiss, Sam Banks or Toby Conway either of them im liking, but this is your phantom draft and if Sonsie slides that far i guess we get a bargain and if Howes shows some better form he might be good too? 😊
