Trading Broughton, for what we woud likely receive, would be really ****ing stupid.

Does anyone know if we shopped him or did Port and Saints ask the question?
Would've thought that there would be a few more clubs than just those two interested if infact we had put his name up. Someone like the Bullies who have 4 or 5 picks in the first fifty or even GWS who have a zillion picks would be the obvious ones to deal with if we're chasing a low pick. But, if they're only talking to Port or Saints, there is perhaps some player movement from them involved as well.

Broughton is a gun small defender, trading him would be ******ed. He's already an elite player (Champion Data post '11 pre '12) trading him would absolutely blow up in our face ie Clement and Medders.

We don't have any other small who can beat their opponent man on man more often than not.

And Broughton for Brown in a straight swap? GTFO.

To be honest Medders didn't really blow up in our face.

Yeah, but Ibbo doesn´t have much worth on the trade market whereas Broughton does. Thats why Broughts is up for trade.

What do you think Broughton is worth, pick 30-50? He's much more valuable than a mid-range pick, clearly best 18 IMO.

Is Wellingham a match winner?
At his best Broughton beats match winners, thats his biggest strength. A guy that can stop a match winner is just as valuable as a match winner.

Broughton is 2 years older than Wellingham as well. He also isn't quick and RTB noted that as a requirement in the off-season. If a deal comes along then the club should and would consider it. I think a pick in the 20s and perhaps a player is reasonable. The player being a bonus.

Our picks as they stand are 17,40,60,80. Getting a pick in the 20s would be a good get IMO.

Some people are getting emotional about this. I would say unless the deal is well and truly in our favour, we keep him. It would take a bloody good deal for us to release him. People calling him our best small defender are right but he hasnt played there for two years. I'd much rather keep him and lose ibbotson spurr or duffield, but their value is nothing.
We played our best footy this year without Greg playing.

Brown for broughton is ridiculous, nobody on here or I'd suggest the club would be happy with that. History is littered with good teams losing good players when there is a great offer on the table. Geelong didn't want to lose moloney but they had to to fill a void and to get brad ottens. If stkilda offer pick 13 and tha gets us shaw. I'd pull the trigger

I wonder if the saints would do something like that, Their coach made a claim some time ago that Broughts was a cert to be drafted and the team that did would be very happy.
He obviously has alot of time for him, would be good if the coughed up something early!

Good comparison. Broughton is better than wellingham. He is also contracted... Pick in the early teens or nothing for me simply. Having said that, for us to get any value out of broughton on the field we need to move him the **** out of the midfield and the forwardline and play him where he actually plays best
