Someone may have already posed this, but does anyone else think it might end up being a first round pick swap for Broughton, and maybe a later pick to settle things up?

We get 13, they get 17 and Broughton... and they might give us another later pick (if they have any left)?

Maybe a second round pick swap (we give 40 and get 37)?

That's an aw

That is an awful trade for us. Broughton for a tiny pick upgrade?

Do we have actual footage of what was exactly said?
Channel 7 news basically said that "Broughton may have played his last game for Fremantle with Port Adelaide keen to get him." Freo apparently prepared to consider a trade if a suitable offer is put on the table.

I would be sad to see Broughts go but happily take Ports pick #7 for him. (wont happen)

As opposed to the standard bigfooty notion... Bond recruited him so Pearce will be a star for us!!!

Pearce is a soft downhill skier who won't add a discernible amount to our team. Young whilst overrated is a much better player than danyle imo

Funny that you say that, because Young's own supporters were saying that he's one of the softest blokes in the team, and is a poor field kick. But is quick and can kick it an absolute mile.

I'm pretty happy with Pearce, as if he and Young are both just as soft as each other then Pearce's kicking is a pretty big advantage to our midget forward line, compared to a long bomb expert.

I reckon Pearce will be very good.

Four spots mightn't seem like much, but if the jump from 17 to 13 gets us the player we want, rather than having them slip through, then it mightn't be as small a deal as you'd think.

Yeah I would have preferred Young, but I'm fine with getting Pearce. He fills a need for us.

I've always liked Young, but it's not a good sign if even Hawthorn supporters are bagging him. They usually overrate their own like you wouldn't believe.

Mind you, he could be the designated scapegoat for losing the GF so they can continue to live in their fairyland that the rest of their team have the greatest players in the AFL in every position on the field.

I don't think I've ever seen Young get the Stephen Hill treatment that Pearce has been copping as the most damaging player in their team, unless you count that grand final against Sydney where he got an accountable opponent and didn't get involved.

You only have to go back 2 games, Young got the Stephen Hill treatment exactly in the Adelaide Hawthorn final this year - Adelaide played vanBerlo on him after quarter time because he carved them up in the 1st quarter. vanBerlo always gets Hill

There was a bit of that in there, but most of them were saying that other blokes on the team didn't stand up on the day either. So I'd say their criticisms weren't a flavour-of-the-day thing, but legit ones that they'd been debating for a while.

Just like many of us bag Ibbo for lacking awareness and being a slow decision maker (and for me a bit lackadaisical), supporters of other clubs may see the athleticism, long kicking and good overhead marking.

Yep, Pearce has been heavily tagged at Port, played in a side that has made finals only twice while he was there, and lost nearly twice as many games as it won, yet still averages four more touches a game than Young, who plays a similar position, and has been in a side that has been relatively successful over his short career. Who is the bigger downhill skier?

Broughton is a very good player, but strikes me as one of those on our list who hasn't "bought in" to Lyon's game plan. I have noted previously that he chooses when to play to his potential and when not to. That kind of attitude isn't welcome and I would support a decision to move him on.

Fair observation. People are remembering his good games but forgetting he puts in some utterly dire performances.

Other than this year when he was "apparently" carrying an injury, Broughton has been one of our most consistant performers since he joined us. "shakes head". Some unbelieveable comments coming out even by BF standards.

Err, you sure? Broughton played nearly every game in 2011, yet there was a huge variation in performances. When we won, he regularly got 30+ possessions, but when we lost he often dropped to the mid teens. His games against Melbourne, North and St Kilda away in 2011 were particularly weak.

That same game; Fyfe only had twenty touches, Hill only had twelve, Pavlich kicked a total of 0.1, Ballantyne didn't even touch the ball in the first quarter to finish will 11.

Lyon doesn't rate Broughton. When he got to the club he told him he wasnt guaranteed 22 and could be spending time in the WAFL. Apparently this didnt help his confidence much.

On a side note, apparently Lyon also didnt rate Tom Lee which is why we didnt go harder for him. The recruiters loved him and took Lyon to the WAFL GF to prove there point but Lyon left at half time after Lee was injured and wasn't producing anything. The club didnt want to sell the farm to get him if Lyon wasn't going to play him.

Jack Hombsch got traded to Port for pick 29, leaving Port with 7, 30 and 31. No way should we be trading Broughton for 30 or 31.
