But high for a bloke who is on the outer.

It's not hard to join the dots and see the picture at the end.

In relation to both these points, I'd much rather comment on actual fact, than bullshit cooked up by posters, which is then passed off as fact.

If everyone was a contested ball winner we wouldn't need skillful players at all. He must have been doing something right to have the opposition tagger chase him around the whole game.
Kep, McPhee, Dawson, D. Pearce, Griffin

Failed in every attempt? He's successfully brought in 5 players in the last few years.

How many of those player did we trade for??? None except grifin

I loved Broughton, while he was with us, like a brother from another mother.

But since he's now left the club, and nobody has started bagging him yet as per BF tradition - I feel that as one of his biggest fans I should start rewriting history so everyone feels better.

... I heard he was a dumb f#@$ crab who couldnt kick his way out of a paper bag.

Girly-boy Broughton!

This is a shitty trade period.

Fact broughton better than pick37

Fact bond is a rubbish hack of manager

Unless pick 37 turns into pav

Last time there was this much anger at FFC was when they sacked Harvey, but some things work out for the best don't they.

I'm not stoked with the trade but if they get some KPP's I will quickly get over it, just get some ****ing KPP's already!!!

There was less anger on BF when Harvey was sacked IMO. I smirked at the decision whereas today I feel like crying.

You tell me man, you kids are doing well at filling out the plot.

Mind sharing more awesome intel that noone but posters on BF know about?

What intel do you need?

You don't trade away a contracted player who is firmly in your plans for a middling pick.

Certainly, given our needs for talls and where that places us in the draft.

I'm sure Bond has a skinny flanker earmarked for 37 though. And I'm sure you'll defend the policy under 'best available', even when it plainly isn't.

Yes I'd rather recruit based on height.

Nice deflection - how about starting with a first-hand source that isn't on BF and isn't imaginary.

I can only assume the eyebrows would have risen at AFL house when they saw this "deal".
I've been a bit of a Bond fan generally, so will wait and see tomorrow before unloading on him. But seriously, this outcome is one of the most lopsided trades I've seen for a few years. There must be another upside episode to this robbery surely?????
1./ As I understood it, we must've already had plenty of salary cap funds available if we were all set to offer up 800k to BJ Goddard as well as the residual not spent for the Clark debacle last year. Salary cap - surely not!
2./ Even if he wasn't a fit for the club's current plans, his performances up to now would surely mark him as a valuable commodity at the trade table. You only need to note the comments on other BF club boards as well as our visitors here that there is a genuine feeling that this was a very lopsided deal. Not all, but most posters see that we've been bent over and reamed with a cauliflower by the new kids on the block. The eagles are knocking back Cripps + 25 for Mitch Brown for chrissakes. So, fair market price - NO!
3./ Saving money for a big dip at some superstar under next year's FA is a crap notion. His contract ends this year. Trade him this time next year before re-signing him again.
4./ So, it's obvious to me, the only sane reason for this rubbish..............They needed to clear him out so that D.P can have his #6 guernsey !!!:D

Right, because this isn't Fremantle.....

Lol touche. I understand where you're coming from in that regard, but I reckon your personnel moves in the last few years have been fairly good.

When I said I had first hand info that Broughton was up for trade, that was immediately pooh poohed by the majority.

As a poster who has been on this board for over 8 years, and has over 20k posts, you can go back over my history and see I don't make things up out of thin air.

Sure, I've used my own powers of deduction to conclude Lyon isn't a huge Broughton fan, but even so, I fail to see how it is that hard to establish that that is in fact the case.

The only other thing it could possibly be is that he has a debilitating injury that only the club knows about and you know he'll play a combined total of 30 games in 5 years for GC so will take anything.

Yep, true character by Walters to turn it around - would have been so easy to give it away then or seek opportunity elsewhere

Big difference is, if Walters had walked away, who in the AFL would have drafted him?

Broughton doesn't have that problem. Quite a few teams in the AFL would be happy to have him playing for them, as he has a good, solid playing history. Sonny didn't at the time he was given the choice.

PS: I wonder who the player was that it is rumoured complained to the AFLPA about holiday fitness expectations and monitoring.

Anyone who saw what he said at the Doig, or read the article that was up on the AFL web site after that.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

If nothing happens in the final day of trade week we now have the option to front end some deals and pay a few current players some of their 2014 contract in 2013 freeing up $$ for 2014 and beyond.

If a player seeks a trade because he thinks that Lyon is working the players too hard then that's not someone we want at the club.

So you favour Broughton & 17 for 13 .......over Broughton & 60 for 37

No agree.

Agree with Jeff to be honest. The only advantage to the second scenario is the extra pick. If the extra four notches gave us our KPP, then why not? Understand the idea of having an extra dart to throw at the board, but I'd rather a straighter dart.

The connection you're missing is the one that says that Broughton sought a trade because he thought Lyon was working the players too hard.

Where's the source for that? You may have first hand information. But if it's just inference, then let's wait until we hear it from someone that actually knows.

Yes, perhaps Dom. But I was under the impression we've been set for that the last two years with Clark and BJ but don't know how to land the big fish anyway!
The other worrying thing for me is that we haven't even been able (so far) to land a stop-gap kpf that we so badly need for the here and now seasons to give Pav and Mayne some relief. Great if we grab a big fella at the draft but they would be unlikely to offer us much help in the short term. Really do hope that some reasonable option pops up in the PSD or rookie draft for this purpose.

The problem is that no one wants to be a "stop gap KPF" so it would mean offering someone on the fringes at their current club a 3 year $1M+ deal like we did with Jack Anthony. Best to keep chasing a big fish IMO and back in Keps/Clarke/Sandi/Griffin to assist Pav in 2013 if nothing happens today.

I don't have that information, hence the use of the word "if".

Your post that I quoted referred to the need for Walters to adhere to Lyon's regime because his choices were Freo or WAFL while Broughton had options. IF Broughton exercised that option then adios amigo.
