I'd have to have come from there to go back. I just think it's a bit of a waste of time thread, that's all, nothing disrespectful towards Broughts. I'm all about 2013+ and he's not a part of that...

I don't think he can do that KPR. Think the AFL closed that loophole after Mal Michael shat on Brissy. As best I know, once they break a contract and "retire" now they are inelligible for re-drafting. Reckon he might pick up a cosy dollar in a victorian league though.

yeah you might be right.

he seems content with his decision to no longer play anyway. saying that he is looking forward to getting his weekends back.

bloody shame he didnt get 100 games for us... has the two young boys, seems like the only player of ours able to produce potential father son draftees

Point is they didn't need it, so why did they ask and why did we give it? Just makes us look weaker at the trade table IMO. But in the end, meh - you're right, we weren't going to use it either.

This is the first time I have posted on a forum. As a person that was formerly a player involved at the club. i would like to remind people that Phil Smarts last draft was the 2009 National Draft. This was the last draft he had the final call in draft selections(ask Hill , Ballantyne , Fyfe etc). My understanding talking to Brad Lloyd he worked the next 12 months in a part time capacity advising the recruiting department. Everybody at the club knows he had a difference of opinion with Ben Allen and Rick Hart over the selections of Hill and Fyfe. Everybody is now happy Smart got his own way with both these players. In defending Smart there is no doubt the recruiting area and football department is bigger and more professional now . If this results in better drafting time will tell. However Brad Lloyd and Chris Bond are very professional and are doing a good job.

thanks Billy. So do you happen to know if Smart would have drafted Pitt? Some of us find the 2010 draft particularly puzzling as we left local lads Darling & Fasolo on the table & both have turned out pretty handy. Of course we haven't had a chance to see what Michie can do at the to level so the jury is out on that one. Pitt I understand was viewed as a project player but it seems an odd time to take one given we needed more ready to go players. Love to hear some more of the inside goss unless you feel you can't say too much. So much of what we do here is guesswork and supposition be nice. To hear some good oil.

Smart had left the senior recruiting team at end of 2009ND. His role in 2010 was local only as he was doing a dual role with Claremont till half way through 2010 when he was poached by Swan Districts. I dont think he would have seen Pitt. Not that iam aware of. Dont get me wrong this is not meant to be pro Smart rant and anti Lloyd. As Lloyd picked Barlow in his first go in the rookie draft. Its funny the word at the club is Smart , Bond and LLoyd still all get on very well.

That's interesting, good to get insight. I always thought it was Bond who came up with list strategy when Smart moved on. But I just assumed based on what I thought the timeline was in arrival/departures etc. Thanks Billy. Now I'm just trying to figure out which ex-player you are;)
