Goodbye browne, hello #3, #12 and #13 in the PSD. I'm pretty sure a carbon rod could offer as much as browne has for us. He's a decent looking lad, he can succeed in other areas....guys like Gilmore it's AFL or bust.

Some random in the ND or PSD has 10x more potential.

We'll be lucky to get one decent pick in the PSD. We can get the guys we'd be taking at #12 or #13 at the end of the ND, when no one else is picking with us.

Anyone in the PSD is worth the risk compared to keeping Browne. We know what we will get with Browne, little, someone in the PSD is an unknown.

That last sentence just shows how little you know. I'm not sure what it is that Browne has planned for himself outside of footy, but the Past player's award he got this year is to do with players setting themselves up for life after footy, so he must have something. I'm fairly sure Gilmore is studying to be a chiropractor, so not quite bust if his AFL career falls over either.

Next year we may face times when we want a guy with some AFL experience to play a few games.

Exactly. As he's not in our best 22 he'll be a depth player but he'll only be there to replace other injured/out of form players. How is he going to do that when he is always injured himself? When we really need him will he be available?

Not great but serviceable at AFL level.

At this stage Armstrong fits this bill better than Browne. Armstrong could also play the role of small forward if needed. (Mark Johnson fits this criteria also - I'm not sure why he was moved on after just 1 season with so many other players departing.)

However now with such a cleanout ...Browne would be replced by a kid at pick 80 something and I think he is far better value than that.

He could still be de-listed and if no better player is available, re-drafted at 101 e.g. Daniel Haines in 2004. I think we would only have to offer him a 1 yr contract as he is an ex AFL player e.g. Mark Johnson and Josh Head.

We need to sit down with the medicos and see if they believe his body is capable of AFL football.

This would have been done before I'm sure. After 7 years of repeated breakdowns do we really need any more evidence?

I certainly think in a year when we are filling the list with people who will certainly not play at all - we can carry a guy who may.

A year in which our list is filled with young, developing players who may not be ready to play is the exact year in which we can't carry a guy who may not even be available.

Browne is a talented player who has been wrecked by leg injuries. His heart and dedication cannot be questioned for a moment. It is a shame he has not been able to get his body right, string consecutive games together and fulfil his potential.

He's a terrific bloke but it's time to move on.

He has never really been given the opportunity (by his body) to have a full pre-season and be 100% fit. With all the retirements you've had, I don't think it would jeopardise the club's position to give him the one year he so richly deserves in order to prove himself.

From what I hear he has been a tremendous clubman and therefore you guys should be supporting him and the chance for him to show his true ability. A phenomenal kid, you would be a fickle lot to begrudge him further opportunity.

you make some good points, but is under 180cm, misses targets and is ok at the clearance. with lists being so small and his years draft being strong, we cant keep an unlucky top bloke. if that was the case, i have kept webster instead.

as for list management, we only have to delist 3 next year and draft only 2 players and promote at least one rookie listed player.

There are cleanouts and then there is such a thing as going to far.

I think he has shown tremendous tenacity to keep going as long as he has, if he is certified as fit by the medicos - we should keep him.

Look at the time and development we have put into Smith and from reports on here he is stuggling to even be a WAFL league player? Browne is a good WAFL player and serviceable AFL player who could give us something.

You want the hidden gem - we have about 3 late picks and 4 rookie picks to unearth that.

I'd rather run a player short (not that the AFL let you) than see him get another contract. I honestly can't see where the attachment to him comes from. He should have been delisted years ago.

We aren't going to win a flag next year, we are almost no chance of playing finals. If we have to play 2 or 3 kids who aren't ready for a game or two each to fill in the few games that Browne might have played, so be it.

Armstrong played with West Coast Chooky ...that is the damaged goods (joke).

You know it is the off season when we ahve 4 pages on Browne.

Finished Runner Up in the Claremont B&F, playing only 10 games...

Averaged 24.6 touches with them this year, if he played a full season in the WAFL would easily win the Sandover.

But to have only played 91 matches (64 with CFC and 27 with Fremantle) since 2002, doesnt there come a time when you have to be delisted...

Will get another year though...

Brownes dad is Stephen Browne, the personal injury lawyer. Maybe he's on the list because Freo feel they could be liable for not better managing his injuries?

I think that he will only be saved because of the amount of turnover this year. If he can't get over his injury woes, he'll be gone next year you'd think.

My position is that he has had a shocking run with injuries and if we had not just jettisoned McManus, Bell, Carrs, Black and Farmer - I would also have been on the delist Browne bandwagon. We ahve however lost a lot of experience and even though Browne has not played a lot - he has trained a lot and been at the club for a long time ...continuity counts.

When fit Browne is a very good WAFL player and has shown that he can hold his own at AFL level. Also I think if Browne ever did string together 10 AFL games - you would see a big improvement.

He is 24, came good towards the end of the season for Calremont, played very well and his game for us in round 22 was pretty good (20 disposals).

If the medicos say he is fit - why wouldn't you retain him? He is suffering from soft tissue - you can get these right and a 2nd half of a season of football is very encouraging.

I suppose I would understand more if Browne had played the first 10 games and then broken down but it appears as though he is currently fit (though happy to be corrected). However he was very good in the WAFL and very good in his last AFL game ....we have a ton of spaces on our list

He is AFL calibre if fit ...at the moment he is fit, he is not old, he knows our club and is a great clubman ......I don't even see why this is close.

As I have said if you want a 75Kg kid who is not as good as Browne is at the moment, or you want Armstrong - you can still take them and keep Browne.

I wouldn't touch Armstrong personally.

browne kicking isnt up to afl standard, and cant see in a premiership best 30 players. rather, go for a project who has 10% of making it.

browne, as we all know cant hit target and isnt clean with the ball. we have schammer, peake, druffield, and thornton as quick players who arent clean with ball.

when teams slow us down and force us into tempo football, having too many players who cant hit targets really hurt.

Talk about making the most out of an off-season thread...

It's been repeated ad nauseam but Macca, Bell, Black, Johnson, Big Carr, Little Carr, Farmer and Dunn all played through the midfield last season, and all of them are gone. Webster is another midfield option who is no longer at the club. That's 89 games we need to fill.

So it's all going to come down to numbers. If the club gets enough players capable of playing AFL football next season through the draft then Browne may have finally run out of chances. Given how highly regarded he is at the club it's unlikely though.

Personally I'd wait until after the national draft to make a decision. This may seem selfish, but it's unlikely any other clubs would be interested in him, if they were then the PSD would still be an option for him anyway.

Rightly or wrongly I expect to see him at Fremantle next season, hopefully fit, healthy and making fools of us all for doubting him.

Last 2 years it was sickies - this year it is sicky.

Plus with McManus gone there has to be one player to be the reason we have not won the flag.

Now it can be that we kept Browne rather than draft Edward Squiggystein a 189 cm 75 kg flanker who has a raking left foot.
