just wondering, now that juddy looks out of contention for the brownlow, ablett and jimmy will be 2/3 top favourites for the brownlow, does anyone remember when we were this hot with the bookies for a brownlow, from what i remember couchy was a long outside shot most of the 89 season.

Kerr would have snagged too many votes in the early games to have Judd in the running. Hopefully he will get rubbed out this week anyway so it will be irrelevant. In years gone by Geelong has been such an even list that we have not had any in serious Brownlow contention, but this year guys like Ablett and Bartel have taken the next step and both will be up there.

I think that Geelong just doesnt get votes. Many times I have watched the brownlow and in games where we have won by 40 points somehow the umpire finds an opposition player to give a 1 or 2 to. Expect it to happen again.

Garry Jnr mouths off too much at umpires to get their vote consistently.

Jimmy could be a chance but dont expect him to win.

Take a chill pill guys.

Jimmy might have a chance, but Gary Jr. isn't playing good enough at the moment. Also, remember that some teams have a habit of stealing votes off each other.

Peronally, I think this year's Brownlow will go to someone who comes in "under the radar".

It's early days anyway.

like judd cousins and kerr, or aker voss and black?
seems to me like they dont steal votes, they share them by helping each other gain them in winning matches.

'stealing votes' is like uni, a good theory but no practice

Some teams often steal votes votes from each other. Metaphorically speaking, of course. For example, try picking a BOG when the whole team fires up, and its difficult. Unless there is a stand out player (who is almost always an on-baller) that is stand out *every* week, you're not likely to get the same name popping up. Recall the Brownlow counts for our own illustrius team in the years since Couchy and you'll notice that the best afield for the Cats has often bounced between a handful of players, no one player able to accumulate a winning tally. The votes are spread more evenly- even when the team was kicking tails all over the comp.

Bartel has polled pretty well in the past and his name has been widely mentioned. The umpires wil be giving him the tight votes, mark my word.

End of the day though it doesnt mean anything, just that the club has a now recognised superstar... except for when that guy whats his name won..Woewodin. He dropped off like no other.

I loved how after the Port win Jimmy was interviewed by Colbert after the siren and was asked how he felt about being up there right now for the Brownlow.

The look on his face was "You have got to be joking mate" and he said he didn't give a crap about all that and was just interested in how the team was travelling.

Good work Jimmy

Reminds of his comment in the Age (?) last year - "as long as we are winning, I don't give a sh*t".

Was lucky enough to goto school with him, was a year above me but he always seems like a good bloke. Hope he keeps the form up.

Ah, we spoke too soon. Has just come through, he has beaten the charge. Was merely resting his fingers on the Hawthorn players face!!

Just means Jimmy has to do it without any help mate , Bartel is in superstar form thus far so I think he can do and we dont have to get help from suspensions
