As a songwriter Bruce is more analogous to Don Walker.
Was going to post earlier today, that Chisel's best songs were written by Don Walker and he only wrote the odd song for Jimmy post 1983. Both Bruce and Don write great lyrics and can get to the heart of an issue and their use of imagery.

Ian Moss is a better comparison to Bruce in terms of singer / guitarist. In just about any other band, Mossy would be the lead singer.

Stevie Van Zandt did co write, Ride the Night Away. I can't remember if they wrote it for Jimmy, or for a mutual friend of Jimmy's.

Have you read Shots? Walker's prose is pretty decent too.

No, but I knew he has written stuff about his life and been involved in writing stuff for films/docos.

They both have a slightly depressive side to their art and character. Great art usually comes from great pain.

Southside Johnny did a version after Jimmy (i think).

I checked something on Don Walker, and both his mother and sister Brenda are novelists.

Brenda won a Miles Franklin award and several premiers literary awards in several states, so good writing seems to be in the genes. Brenda has also published non fiction books and was Prof of English at Uni WA until she was killed by a speeding motorist crossing Kings Park Road in Perth in December 2024.
