can't question his contested work anymore, this season he has really grown in that area and i think it is a result of more time in the midfield and less of Chris Judd being in there

Gibbs is "really confident" Carlton has the players and coaching staff to win a premiership before his new contract expires at the end of 2019.
He has also been buoyed by the way the Blues have rebounded from their 71-point loss to the Sydney Swans in round 17. Their win against North Melbourne in round 18 was followed by an unlucky five-point loss to Fremantle at Patersons Stadium last Thursday night.
The midfielder said Malthouse's message after the loss to the Dockers was that the Blues were "close" but had to eradicate the late skill errors that had cost them in their five losses by two goals or less this year.
"It's probably the perfect preparation for us leading into next year to play sides that are in contention for the top eight," he said.
"We want to be challenging for those spots next year, so it’s a great way to test ourselves over the next month."

It's a good question. Training report were positive over summer. What's happened to him?![]()
I read this article yesterday which admittedly lacked substance but the subject got me thinking -
http://*******************/2016/04/05/bryce-gibbs-stud-or-spud/
On paper his stats look quite good. However he seems to be maligned by fans and media alike. Carlton or otherwise. He is a B&F winner, been loyal to the club through trying times, been very durable, but is often criticized for lack of effort and standing up when the game is on the line.
I understand he still has a bit of his career to go and may change peoples minds. But as it stands now he conjures up mixed opinions within the football community.
So my question is this: if Gibbs was to retire now, how would you remember him?
30 disposals, 8 tackles, 3 goals v Pies
But he's'not that good'consistent ODN!

It's interesting that point about playing courageously. This might be wildly off the mark, but when I look at the best team of the current era, Hawthorn, and try to pick their closest player who plays the most similar role to Gibbs, I always think of Burgoyne.Look he is a talented footballer.
My issue with him is I don't believe he ever does anything hugely courageous. I never see him back into a pack, or throw himself at the loose ball in a way that could result in a serious hard hit to his body (head).
Look nobody is saying he has to be a Selwood. But his unwillingness to do the real hard stuff is clear as day IMO.
I know he tackles and wins plenty of hard ball but he doesn't win them with true hard ass attacks on the ball. I'd just once love to sit there and say "wow that took serious courage and balls".
He looked shocked the other day when he took the mark and copped a late hit.
But you know what, I've just about learnt to accept that is just how he is. Every team needs class and he certainly is that and maybe every team has one of those players who won't do the kamikaze act but will win you games through polish. I don't think you can carry more than one of these so if he's our one then so be it.
