Honestly, given GWS were two down for the whole second half and had other various niggles throughout the game, for us not win that game yesterday by 8+ goals, let alone lose it, is completely unacceptable.

What bothers me equally is the constant lack of accountability by the coaching staff. Really getting sick of Buckley's "They adjusted better than us", "They were harder than us", "We were just a little bit off at times today which cost us", etc etc. Week in, week out, same dribble. Honestly he may as well just pre record a press conference full of cop outs and use it for every loss we have. How refreshing would it be if we could hear "Yeah shit, today was a poor coaching performance" or "selecting player x was the wrong choice, sorry members". If we're going to lose (which we shouldn't have yesterday) then I can usually cop it but stop feeding us, the people who consistently pour their hard earned into he club, lines from the coaching excuses and cliches' text book.

Been a Buckley defender for a while now but honestly, I haven't felt this glum about the direction this club's going since Tony Shaw's reign.

To think, the two great teams that played back to back grand finals to start the new century will shortly be the bottom 2 sides on the ladder.

Sorry Bucks, the players respect you, the staff too (especially Eddie), but going out of your way to recruit smalls and give up talls like Witts and Cloke at the same time is leading to your downfall. Can't win a game when your only good talls are Reid, Grundy and Moore.

Contrary to what you may believe Nath a team full of players the size of Eddie Betts (even with all his talent) are not going to go very far. :p

Hang on, weren't Cloke and Witts considered by most of the footy public to be dinosaur spuds by the end of last season? And now they're suddenly the missing pieces that we "gave up"? Can't have it both ways, people.

And yet some Doggies fans consider Cloke to be best 22 hahaha.

Not taking any pleasure in your sides predicament, admittedly though it would be nice to see Robert Harvey get a head coaching gig ;) I mean look what Max Hudghton and Luke Ball did for your team. We are good luck charms :D but not for us

Reid, Grundy and Moore are elite (even if some think Moore has underwhelmed). Pendlebury, Treloar and Adams are elite too, but you still need targets to kick to and Cloke could at least have been a good decoy for Darcy Moore in kinda the same way the G Train was a decoy for a rising Riewoldt.

Did he really say post match that he expects the team will play finals?

That's the expectation, that they have the ability to be there. Whether they can or will meet that expectation is what is to be decided.

If you look at the comment in context, he was basically saying that the goals and expectations haven't changed, and we're not just writing off the year and giving up before half way. A reasonable enough sentiment, given they've been in winning positions in just about every game so far, and aren't getting blown out or regularly being shown to be miles off the pace.

Agree with most of what you've said but on Witts, there hasn't been a bigger pea heart to find themselves on an AFL list this century.

I can respect the view on Witts, you know way more then I do about your club. I remember before he debuted there was alot of excitement about how good a player he may be, I am sorry it did not work out for you guys, perhaps if you do finish bottom 5 you will be lucky enough to draft another gun, Pendlebury was your last number 5 I think so someone even with half his ability in the draft would make this year not a total bust :)

James Stewart pick #77 - Essendon

Pies could do with him :D;)

Good memory. There was a bit of hype around Witts when he came onto the scene but I think a lot of that was based on his height and not necessarily on his ability. Only one or two cm's shorter than Sandilands IIRC.

It's no secret to the footy world that we've got more than enough mids, even probably more than enough small/medium forwards and backs. What we need desperately is to stock up on key forwards and key backs for the next couple of drafts and trade periods and get games into them. They don't need to be stars, they just need to be able to play a role and do the basics well.

Anybody you personally hope the club would be looking at in regards to key position players from other teams that you think would fit in well at your club?

Picking up Dunn, Wells, Mayne etc when you're rebuilding was a strange decision. From the outside it looked like a desperate move to save the coach now rather than look to the future.
Getting rid of Cloke and Brown when your key position stocks are low was an even stranger decision.

Good for us though Brown (along with Carlisle) have slotted right into the spots vacated by Fisher and Dempster's subsequent retirements.

Brown was a strange one. 2 years younger than Dunn too

From the perspective of meeting minimum TPP when you have a large amount of salary going off the books (Swan, Cloke, Brown, Toovey, Macaffer), not to mention veteran know-how and leadership, it makes a fair bit of sense.

Not every personnel decision or salary or contract length relates entirely to on-field performance, or is direct evidence of how a club "rates" a player. Sometimes there are other factors at play.

Moore is not even close to being elite. What a dumb comment.

Agree with everything you said except Darcy Moore is not elite, a talented kpp no doubt. It's too much of an ask for him to carry the forward line especially the way Collingwood enter their f50.

This is why I posted the first comment. You've got no clue about Collingwood's list if that's your view.
He's right. How can a side that relies on a 21 year old inconsistent key forward be good enough for the top 8?

Look at the sides in and around the bottom few spots of the 8 right now. Essendon, Melbourne, Fremantle, Western Bulldogs, Richmond, St Kilda and Geelong.

The only side there with a real average forward line would be Fremantle's and they haven't consistently looked like a top 8 team so far.

I've watched a fair bit of Collingwood this year. They have the ability to get close to or knock off some good teams because they have a good midfield. They're not consistent at all because you cannot rely on your midfield to win you games.

Being in winning positions and blowing it doesn't just relate to Buckley. You can't dominate periods or quarters of games and barely kick any goals and simply blame it on the coach. A team resorting to play someone as useless as Mason Cox as a forward target has glaring holes.

The issue is that they didn't replace these talls, despite bringing in readymade players in less critical roles.

Recruiting midfielders with appalling disposal hasn't helped. There are guys that get a lot of the ball but absolutely butcher it and then don't bother about the defensive side of the game.

Good teams keep possession. GWS happy to give up Tyson (to get Kelly), Treloar, Adams etc. Their other midfielder butcher they turn into an AA forward (Greene).
Hawthorn quickly move on Hallahan and Anderson because they're butchers.
Collingwood however are full of them. Crisp is just as bad as Treloar, Greenwood and Adams.
