I thought htey were due for 2013 season.

im talking about taking one step at a time. If you cant win a flag does finishing 7th or 8th actually mean anything? i'd rather snap up another couple of kids while we arnt challenging.

its works 3 fold.. you get games into your kids, you get the squad you are going to have in years to come gettinf solid time together and you get the chance at nailing some good draft kids.
Not really that much better a chance at getting good kids. 8th gets you what... pick 21, 38, 55 & so on compared to (say) 10th would get us 17, 34, 51... call me crazy but I don't think that's worth aiming for.
Sure, if you're shit, you're better off going full tank for the 1+2; but that's not on the cards from here (nor likely to be on the cards with the concessions).

Far more important IMHO is developing a 'culture' where there is pressure on every spot every week and a clearly defined roles within an overall gameplan. Testing that gameplan under finals pressure can't be a bad thing either.

Great post.:thumbsu:

Then you look at Melbourne and Richmond, clubs who arguably developed a culture of mediocrity, by accepting failure to gain earlier draft picks.

Richmond have been doing it since I can remember, actually, and now despite those clubs arguably having more talent than us (I'd say Melbourne does, but Richmond is very debatable), they're still struggling.
