Recommitted Buku Khamis [FA 2026] - requested a trade to Carlton, didn't get there

Incase you haven't noticed Carltons recruiting strategy this year, it's low cost moneyball players. We aren't chasing anyone currently worth first and second rounders in reality.
Khamis is talented but I'm telling you now he is not worth a second at the moment and I think if the trade talks went anything like this thread both clubs would just shake hands and walk away.
Yeah probably. If you guys don’t want to give a late 2nd or there abouts then yeah he’s probably on our list for another year and you can get him next year for cheap. Just don’t think it’s unreasonable to hold a guy who we actually want to keep.

And on Chesser vs Khamis debate, neither worth much unfortunately.

But Chesser is a totally different case to Khamis. Chesser is more in the mold of a Jack Martin type where the club knows they're a high quality player when fit but their issue is consistently being healthy.

Khamis from all reports has been fairly durable, just lacking in talent/role for the Dogs 22.

WCE will rightfully ask for overs for Chesser as they genuinely want to keep him. He'd nearly certainly play every game next year if he gets a clean run at it. Khamis may spend the whole year in the VFL if there's minimal injuries to the best 22 KPPs.

Very different situations.

Just remember Kennedy (who's a far better player and was also under contract) went for a 2nd rounder. Buku ain't getting our 2nd with nothing coming back.

Miles off the level of Kennedy in fact.
Not all second rounders are equal.

Last year's draft was certainly stronger than this year's. This year's draft is even more compromised as well.

Brisbane's second rounder is pretty much a 3rd and that is before bids.

And Kennedy was about twice the player that Khamis has shown so far.

Kennedy realistically should have been worth a late first rounder and most Blues fans said as much last season. However given he was seeking opportunities and the club wasn't going to be able to provide that, in good faith we let him go for a modest offer from the Dogs.

Khamis will be the same case unless Power wants to kick up a stink for no good reason. Players spending large chunks of the year in the VFL don't Garner 2nd round picks. Especially players who are almost no chance of cementing a best 22 spot in that team next year.

So we are still on all picks in each round are equal.

The fact you seem oblivious to fhe fact Carlton do not have their own second rounder says it all. They have Brisbane's, right at the end. Nowhere near equal.

Asking to pay pick 52 is laughable.

You're going to need Khamis considering Curnow wants out.
You do understand that I've said nothing about our 2nd rounder nor Brisbanes yeah? Brisbanes second rounder is valuable to us because it provides a lot more points than a 3rd would to match a bid on Dean and Ison.

And yes, 52 would be about right after all the academy and F/S bids are matched. Probably get down closer to 45 after that's all done and dusted.

But given I'm 'oblivious' I should also note we actually have pick 44 as our 3rd rounder. A pick that would be pretty much bang on for a player of Khamis' talents in a weak draft.

You have spelled it out yourself.

It's a weak, shit draft
With bucket loads of academy prospects. Which means later picks will move up the draft order on the night as picks get swallowed up on bids. So could be closer to a pick in the 30s on draft night.

Khamis is half the player Kennedy is, thats just a fact. Compensation ain't gonna be a 2nd rounder.

They play completely different positions

Carlton have offered him 4 x 600k for a reason and it's because they might lose Curnow. Carlton can't afford not to get him.

Ur making out as if Khamis is the key to replacing Charlie Curnow lol?

If we're losing Charlie we'll be getting a kings ransom back and we already have other players who would be ahead of Khamis for that role.

He's more than likely being picked up to fill JSOS role anyway and will be totally separate to anything Curnow related.

He's worth bugger all as he's leaving for opportunity. Just a reality of the industry.

So you're picking up Khamis to play defence, a position he is not great in. He's a forward now.

He would only make it as a third tall in the forward line at Carlton.
