Butcher's unreliable kicking is becoming so overrated it is actually underated

But he had that horrible kick against Norwood in a monsoon with up to three Redlegs spuds assaulting him every time he went near the ball!

If his card is indeed marked, then so is the coaching staff in my books. Nothing to lose by playing Butch over 5 to 6 foot vanilla plodder in the middle. Nothing to lose to play him over Stewart. Nothing to lose to play him when Ryder went down, or rather than recall Redden. Nothing to lose to bring him in when Schulz was clearly hampered by an ankle vs Brisbane. Nothing to lose except faith that the coaches afford each player equal opportunity

This is the thing.

We've seen Paul Stewart play tall forward and last week Hombsch was swung forward against ****ing Carlton.

We're not talking about him being held back by a Schulz-Tredrea, Pavlich-Mayne or Riewoldt-Bruce tandem here, but seemingly having his cards marked when we're screaming out for a second option.

Meanwhile Kane Mitchell and Sam Gray continue to parachute in and out like bucketlisters.

Dunno if his hips would let him, but I'd love to see Butch with quite a few extra kilos and a proper rover at his feet ....
As you command ....

he kicked it into the man on the mark from a free kick in the goalsquare. no monsoon, no assault, all butch.

totally different positions but mitchell and gray both dominated and deserved a call up, butcher has barely had a touch all year.

That is one of the best post's I've ever read and sums up his career and the mismanagement of his development perfectly.

Well done.
hardly the coaches fault, its all on butch, he hasnt stepped up, hasnt forced the coaches to pick him through sustained good form, or even the odd dominant game.

The man in question has been named at full forward in a strong team, on a ground which he should know like the back of his hand, and the weather forecast is good.

Over to you Butch, drop the ball straight and not via your kneecap, so at least 4 sausage rolls please.

>Hasn't had the odd dominant game

>Was leading the Ken Farmer Medal half way through last year with 2 bags of 5 and several bags of 3

I'm just going to come out and say it

If you think that the way various regimes of this football club have managed Butcher's development has been just fine, you don't know anything about football

We had the raw talent, we all saw it. 6 goals in his 2nd game. 4 goals and a Brownlow vote in his 3rd. That's not something that happens by fluke. This club, under Primus and Hinkley has had the job of nurturing that talent and getting the best out of him so that we have an AFL ready KPF going forward, and it has monumentally failed through repeated bad decisions and mismanagement.

I'm gonna copy n paste what I posted in a different thread:

"From his debut in late 2011 through to the end of 2012 he only played 2 SANFL games. He then missed the start of the SANFL season, played 6 SANFL games in a row, was promoted and played 8 out of his next 9 games at AFL level. Kicked 3 goals in his only SANFL game and was brought straight back in. He was perservered with until he picked up 1 kick in 2 games and was dropped.

So once in the side, he played 12 of 14, then 8 of 9 games. The 3 SANFL games he played in that time were coming back from injury, not because of omission."

We didnt drop him for 2 years. His body let him down. Thats not mismanagement.

And then got injured, then got sick, then had poor form for the rest of last year. We jumped the gun early on him this year but every time he has come close to selection he has either got injured or just starting playing crap. That isn't really the coach's fault.

Are you for real. He has had a shocking year, so much so they have moved him down back to get a kick.

To me that is the killer. Maybe the SANFL isn't a KPF league but he is barely getting a touch. He didn't kick a goal when we kicked 20+ a few weeks ago meanwhile 18-20 yr olds that are all late draft picks are dobbing a few goals. If anyone deserves selection it is Mitch Harvey.

and he has done literally nothing in the SANFL to deserve a call up since.

17th in the Magpies best and fairest in 2013, 17th in 2014, and even worse in 2015.

So... case closed.

Dropping him the last two times we have and leaving him out of the side for the rest of the season was absolute mismanagement.

He didn't deserve to be dropped either time and both omissions were terrible decisions.

He absolutely should have been persevered with last year all season, and this season he absolutely should have played every game until Lobbe came back given how horrendously unfit Reddo was

While leading the goalkicking.

My entire argument is that the coaches are mismanaging him and making poor decisions when it comes to him.

See if you can find another example of someone leading a club's goalkicking and being 17th in their best and fairest.

It's a ****ing rort.

Taking out of the equation any development and environmental issues; and, to his credit, John's brilliant, aggressive attack on the ball and opponent in the first half against Norwood, Butch was solely responsible for his skill execution error to miss the 'un-missable' goal from 10 metres out: an error which destroyed the team's momentum in that game.
I would love to see John succeed but often, very often, John is his own worst enemy.

Yea but you have never seen him play so whats the point arguing with you.

None of his "bags" have ever had any sort of impact on the result. We were scoring 150 points every week and he just happened to cash in a couple times with late goals when the opposition stopped playing. Big deal.

The old you don't know anything about footy because my opinion differs from yours.....hilarious. Yes he had a few good games last year in a side that dominated the early part of the year. Ended up with 30 goals in a season of SANFL footy....

I like butch, i like the way he goes about it and I want nothing more than for him to step up, but I'm not going to make opinions based on what i like, but what I have seen based on watching live 99% of the games he has played. Yeah you could say he could have been selected against Brisbane last year, and a couple of other times maybe. But the reality is when he has played at afl level he has struggled, and at SANFL level he hasn't forced his selection.

Harvey has already shown more and quite frankly in 1 SANFL game and a few preseason games Howard has also shown enough to say they are ahead right now.

Are you ****ing kidding? This is one of the most ****ing stupid arguments about anything ever and it consistently gets perpetuated on this board.

He lead the goalkicking over the entire length of the season. He was the one getting on the end of the good work, and we should know pretty well that unless someone actually kicks the goals, it doesn't matter how good the rest of your play is.

It's like saying Robbie Gray didn't have a good year last year because most of his good games came in wins where we were up and about and the entire midfield was playing well so that doesn't really count.

Have seen this thread up top all week and avoided dropping in because i thought it would be all herp derp i told yuse butch was a spuddy mcspud delist and im sick of reading it and firing up.

Now i drop in and it is all lets play butch what do we have to lose.

Farkin place full of bipolar campaigners!

For the record my view is as always.....release the butch!!!!
