Hi all,

I was wondering out of these two if we had to chosoe a midfilder which would we choose. After reading mojos profiles i would say collard as he is the kind who gets the ball and willing to get into the dirt for the ball unlike Jetta who feeds of the ball getters.

Jetta may be more eciting and quicker but what we need is tough hard ball getters.

Yours thoughts?

By all reports jetta has not come on this yr as oppossed to his form last yr.

We don't need flashy players.

It depends if you call regular BOGs in WAFL reserves 'come on'.

Colts
round 1: named 5th in BOG list.

Reserves
round 2: named 1st BOG
round 3: named 2nd BOG
round 4: did not play
round 5: named 5th BOG
round 6: 3 goals, not named in best players
round 7: named 1st BOG
round 8: BYE

League
Round 9: 9 kicks 3 marks 1 point. not named in BOG.
Round 10 onwards, training for state team. Did not play.

Sounds like an Aaron Davies. Would be handy but then so would Collard. Lets get both ;) .

What about Albert Proud? - seems to boast the best of both worlds. Tough fast AND skillful.

Of the WA boys I am starting to lean toward Collard - he just has done a shown a little more than Jetta at the moment.

Well if we lose the next ten and finish 13th then we mite get a crack a one of them.

We might get a crack at one of them anyway. Depends of the priorities of the other clubs and picks we trade for. We may yet end up with pick 6-8. Lets hope we traded for it.

Not the type of players best suited for Fremantle and Fremantle is not the best Club for them certainly not in its present state.

There in lies the problem. Its a shame we may well have to pass over on home grown talent simply because it doesnt fit our needs of the moment. Heres hoping for a time when our list is balanced enough that we are often able to grab highly rated local talent simply because it is that. Our focus will more than likely be on in and under clearance types this trade period.

I think he's joking. We don't need anymore in and under players. We need fast outside receivers who can kick. This is the reason our forwards look so frustrated.

Take both.
Having seen Collard play for South I can comment on the fact that the kid can play and certainly knows where the goals are.
I read somewhere that some pundits are suggesting that 4 of the top 6 might come from Queensland.
The Vics always have a solid group: metro and country.
No 1 is likely to be Gibbs from SA and this year's WA side looks stacked with talent.
That said, Phil Smart will have his eye on a few slow short people that no one else has listed.

Lol, dont joke about it. Actually I was serious about the in and under types. We may have a few already but we have the wrong types. We need blokes that will get in and dig the ball out at the clearances and win possession. Point taken about the receivers though, but with Peake, Headland, Walker and co we already have a few maybe the ones we have just arent good enough. However clearance winners are a must, been an Achilles heal for a while now.

I think our clearances have more to do with our rucks. Note the change in clearances won when surprisingly Polak and Dodd were contesting.

Josh Carr and Hasleby are our class in and under players. Add to that McManus, Bell and Ryley Dunn (fingers crossed) and we are set in that area. Look at our outside recievers. Headland (not bad at in and under either), Peake, Walker and M.Carr. None of those guys are noted for their kicking skills except maybe Headland, who is at times sporadic. We really lack players with quality disposal.

Schammer fits into both categories, will depend on his development. Again, not a great kick at this stage.

I had this discussion with someone a while back. McLeod and Johnstone or Mitchell and West. McLeod and Johnstone every day of the week for mine. Pavlich would have a grin ear to ear seeing those blokes running towards him with the ball. As opposed to groaning every time our foot brigade bomb and hope.

I think Freo need a consistant ball winner who can use the ball effectively, compared to a 'flashy' on and off midfielder, which they have been accused of having in the past and present. Not sure who the possibilites are in this mould, as it's hard to judge consistancy with kids not playing at the top level.

I can't think of a 'flashy' midfielder at Fremantle at the moment. Maybe Des Headland.

Who are you talking about?

I think there is truth to what you say but I dont think its the whole story. Our tap work is in dire need of improvement I agree, and would certainly improve our clearances however we also lack pack busting types with speed and strength to get the ball out to our wide recievers. Our tough in and under types are too easy to shutdown as they are similar slow running types who's best skill in the clearance is grabbing the ball and giving off the quick handpass. Usually they cant hit an outside runner from that position and need to feed it to someone who can shrug the tackles and break clear.
Problem is we dont have them. Des would be our closest ? Heath Black to a lesser degree and there is one bloke you really want delivering the ball into your forward line with that raking left boot. Schammer may develop into this type with more gym time (tho he's a little small) but my great white hope here is Ryley Dunn. The bloke is made to do this job. Fingers crossed on that one, I hope his motor is up to it.

i agree 110% i say Collard also , is he a big long kicker? or he another midget kick? any idea?

Can he kick on the run from outside 50 and he acurate kicker centimeter perfect?

Or is he an othero ne of thoose who just boots leather of theb all into the heavens?

Only seen a little bit of him, but I am aware that he has kicked quite a few goals at WAFL level, including a haul of five. Really haven't seen him try to kick over long distances, but he is an accurate kick.

Mojo had him at 181cm which is Paul Hasleby size. He is fast, but is also a little light at 76kg.

From my point of view your midfield seems a bit "one-paced". You haven't got that outside player tearing the house down on the wings.

ya thats what headland and peake are for

but there no good if we dont have people smart enough to get the ball out of scuffles in the middle to them

Thus the need for Collard

THats only 2 players out of the need for about 5 in a team. Peake has question marks over his disposal, similarly Headland can be a bit hot and cold, but is finding some consistency.

There's a few players in the coming draft that look very promising.

Personally id take Proud over Jetta and Collard. Type of player Freo needs as well.

Hows Jetta and Collard been playing for Sowfs since they've last been discussed ?

Do we still need Midfielders now or have we sorted that out ?
