i know there has been a lot of people asking for cam to be dropped after last weeks effort. im usually a fan of cloke however the last couple of weeks he hasnt played too well. however the most worrying thing for me is the amount of goals cloke kicks. im not expecting him to come out every week and kick 4 or 5 goals however as our second forward he should be able to consistantly kick small bags of around 3 goals. looking at his stats, he has only kicked more than 2 goals in a match twice in his career, both times against brisbane. IMO, this isnt good enough for afl level, especially in a team that is screaming for more forward options.

i know fisher last season was a worry infornt of goal however i think that he should get a call up to the ones as u usually manages to get a few scoring shots every game. however the biggest worry is his lack of goals in the twos.

another option i think would be aussie. we know he is a reasonable size with good enough skills, why dont we give him a try up forward and if he goes alright it could prove handy as we could swap him and waite around to change things up during the game.

i dont really see edwards or hartlett as a forward option as we have been waiting for years for them to deliver with not much of a result.

the wablues own Cam Cloke had an off day last week but provides us with a big body up forward and in the middle. Unless his replacement can offer more than you do not drop a bloke just for the sake of it.

Fisher and Cloke are tried and failed options. We need to look at Austin, someone with Skill, Height and Athleticism.

Cam Cloke will have an off day against any good team.

Players who play well against good teams are the ones who will win us finals, players who have bad games against good teams will let you down in the finals guaranteed.

He's never had form, he's never had an on day, only had respectable days when we are going good. Play him this week against freo and if we go well he will too... untill we play another decent side.

The goals don't worry me tbh. What does worry me is the lack of presence for a guy his size. He just doesn't present strongly enough as a target and has difficulty contesting the ball to a point of advantage for teamates.

I very rarely bag Blues players, and Cloke deserves some respect for the effort he puts in, but unless he lifts his game, his future with this team is bleak.

Good point this. I've liked Cam Cloke in the past but hes been poor this year even though he's had plenty of opportunity to prove himself. Think his confidence is really down at the moment - his role should be to sit in the goal square and catch the bombs that come in, not roaming around the wing like he was on the weekend.

Would like to see Austin get a run in the forward 50 or have Hampson play the ruck and Kruezer play the roaming forward role. At least with Austin we have a bloke who's quite athletic and can chase if the ball hits the deck.

Yes, you're right. Let's give up on two forwards in exchange for a defender to leave our forward line bare in the future.

He has to get smarter man on man.

Trying to choose my words here,
when he gets front position,
he has to put his hands up,
and take the hit.
All he has to do is stay in the forward line. No more of this wing lead crap. He simply isn't able to do that sort of thing. However, what he can do is take a contested mark, win a one-on-one contest and create a distraction from Fevola all in the forward 50.

You would only have to kick 2 goals to match Cloke. If you were able to win a ground level ball, pressure or even tackle you have bettered him. You think Hartlett or Austin couldn't do that? I would like to find out...

This is the truth. Clokey has been an honest ruckman for us the past few years when we didn't have any other options and I thank him for that but with the team improving he, Fish and a few others are not going to be in the side going forward. To be honest I thought he would be gone this week so its going to be interesting to see how long he stay in the ones.

Peace be with you.

..

Yeah I tend to agree, however this is his year to prove himself (Cloke)

Agreed, this season should be his last chance and to make it he needs to be crashing packs, taking marks and kicking goals ahla J Brown style beacuse his ground ball work and defensive pressure aren't going to improve, he's not particularly quick and turns like a mack truck.

He is not as athletic as Brown - I see him in more a Salmon like role when he was at the Hawks

Ah the virtue of patience. Cam Mooney, premiership forward for the cats kicked the following number of goals:
02-28 from 19 games, 03-10 from 14 games, 04-12 from 24 games, 05-4 from 17 games, 06-22 from 17 games, 07-67 from 25 games, 08 52 from 24 games.

Now I know he spent some of his early career in the backline for the Cats but my point is that we have to be patient. We finished bottom 4 just 2 seasons ago. It takes time to build structures, to have players play to expectation and for the rest of the players around to gel into the unit that succeeds.

I think its time for some of these threads highlighting individual players to stop for a while. They serve no purpose other than feeding the chooks among us.

Ummm........twice in his career you say?

What is that as a percentage of the number of games he has played as a permanent forward?

If you gave Eddie Betts the same test after half a dozen games I'd Wager poor Eddie would be off in the ammos by now.

Clokey does need to lift and provide a target, but I suspect Fev is probably one of the hardest guys in the comp to share a forward line with.

He takes the best position, leads at the midfielders as the first option, and most times they take that option.

It doesn't excuse his game vs Hawks, but other than that I think he has been serviceable without being exceptional. Not bad for guy who would have played less than 10 games as a permanent forward.

I suspect Aussie is in to put some pressure on him. Without any obvious options, lets see how he goes.:thumbsu:

Cloke can't do anything about his lack of pace and agility. He can't do much about his lack of skill and poor hands. He can do plenty about his weak attackon the footy.

I see absoluetly no reason why we are playing him. Is he protecting a young Kreuzer from the ruck? no. Is he providing an effective decoy for Fev? no. Is he dragging an effective opposition defender out of their defence? no, too often it is Clokes man sweeping the ball out. Is he crashing packs/ bring the ball to our small forwards? no. Is he a good waterboy? no. Is he kicking goals? no. Is he the future of our forwardline/rucks? no.

say 'no' to cloke.

happy to have a debate with you 30, but you're not giving me much there.

There is no debate. It was a rubbish post not worthy really of a detailed reply but in the interest of you perhaps improving the quality of your posts:

You are another of these couch selectors that thinks they know better than the entire MC, some 2000 games experience amongst them btw. They obviously have a reason to select him, that you dont know what it is would hardly be of concern to them.

I think the key phrase in your post was that you cant see. 100% Correct.

the MC this year have made multiple mistakes that have potentially cost us games. do you acknowledge that?

Nope dont think that at all. Against Essendon some have said we needed to have Carlos in. We did not lose that game because of poor defense we lost because we did not put scoreboard pressure on when we had control early and our mids and forwards did not put the same pressure they had the weeks before. Not a selection issue.

Against the Swans we were poor all over the field but again had the chance to ice the game early and failed to take our chances. Again no one selection or failure to select was at fault, the 22 we had were perfectly capable of winning but we did not play well.

Against the Hawks, the only questionable selection was Bentley and I have no issue with the MC trying players out to see if they are up to it. Retrospect is a wonderful tool, unfortunately only couch selectors seem to posses it.

NEXT.

CarltonFan, Clokey had a bad game, two weeks ago the tables were turned and everyone was saying how much he has improved. You need to step back and look at the whole picture, not just one game. MC rate him, and so do the majority of us. You need to say things like "I hope he plays like he is capable of" instead of the rubbish that you are serving up ("the receipe in the food we are going to serve up")
