Rayner doesn't need 30 disposals to impact the game.

Are you still claiming him to be overrated?
totally, how’d his game go in your rating machine?
Getting called a nuffie won’t change my mind.
And if he gets the kudos for changing games with a few moments the lions should of drafted an umpire with pick 1
Similar possession count.
Way more goal assists

Rayner would be your teams captain if he played for you, lets not be ignorant here.

Another nuffie that just looks at disposals and not the impact a player has one the game.
Yes, but there is the broader issue that if you do not win all that much of the ball, your impact on a game is always going to be limited.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that Rayner is necessarily less influential than, say, Clayton Oliver. But if you don't win much football, you're always going to be somewhat peripheral to the game.

Look, if Rayner had come off the rookie list, then we'd be clapping Brisbane on the back for finding another weapon. But I think it's reasonable to say that he hasn't fulfilled the lofty expectations we may have had.

Did Cyril Rioli win a lot of the football? I truly think Rayner (albeit a different style), is that way inclined in terms of how impactful he is in the forwardline.

Whatever you think of him, he was influential when it counted in a prelim, he's pretty bloody good.

Bloke was vomiting all week and during the game and had to have a red bull and nodoze during the game to stay up and about. Still turned the game despite this.

Fear the untackalable one baby!

That's exactly my point. Rioli was very good - but his limited average attacking output means that he'll always be seen as a half-rung below someone like Toby Greene.

I don't understand how this can be your line of thinking.

I rate Cyril up there with Winston Abraham and Jim Krak, there's only a few higher as a Small Forward all time (KB, Daicos, Acker, Milne definitely, maybe Chapman) that's it.

He was a superstar.
Just in so far as that I think Cyril's best season was 2016, at age 27, and he never played a full season again unfortunately.

I don't think Abraham was a superstar, that said (with apologies to him and NM) - I'd have guys like Betts, Farmer, Milne and Breust in front of him.

Abraham was pound for pound the greatest kick of a football ever.

Hird ended his career at 27.

Marks of the Year, Goals of the year. Could have easily won both twice.

Don't argues KPPs, jumped on heads, underrated.

Please post where danger flails to the ground 180 meters off the ball when someone lightly brushes past him and gets a free… I’ll wait
Well he isn't called Dangerflop for no reason at all. Maybe there is some substance.

With our list the way it currently is, I am glad we picked Cam over Brayshaw. They're very different players. Brayshaw is one of the best two way mids in the game. If we had Brayshaw, I am not sure we would have gone after and gotten Dunks. It's hard to argue that Brayshaw isn't the more accomplished player. I think we were all expecting him to kick on more than he has after his 2022 season.

But Cam is pretty bloody good. Certainly better than what Danny rates him. Every team would love to have him on their list.

I blame Bruce McAveney :p

I suspect that if Cyril had played for GWS-equivalent, and Greene for mid-2010s Hawthorn, there wouldn't be a question of which was better.

That said, I think we never saw the peak of Cyril.

Yep. Greene has Rioli covered by miles. And miles.

Rioli wasn't even the best small forward at his own club - Breust outperformed him comfortably over a much longer period. But zero flash or Bruce losing bodily fluids over him, so it doesn't count.

Yeah, but if you hadn't needed to go after Dunkley, you could have spend that capital on someone a little more damaging than Rayner. That said, you can never have enough A-grade mids.
