Sutcliffe's ability to keep both AFL, SANFL, and AFL coaching jobs at Port for going on 8 years now despite never showing any aptitude in a single one of those roles, while also pulling Ash Woodland despite being a balding 33 year old, needs to be studied in a lab. The man clearly has access to fairy godparents or a luck totem or some other thing out of some fantasy novel.

It's genuinely a bigger mystery than Hinkley. Despite vehemently disagreeing, I can at least understand why a weak board who doesn't understand that premierships are the goal could think this bloke who is popular among the playing group and consistently achieved average to above average ladder positions is worth recontracting. Sutcliffe on the other hand has never even been adequate.

To add insult to injury, inarguably he's the worse captain in Port Adelaide's storied history. What a ****ing disgrace.

He seems like a good dude to me, i've never understood the hate he gets. I think it is pretty hard to measure the success or failure of a development coach, senior and line coaches are different, the proof is in the pudding with them. For instance, i think our forward line sucks more than any other area of the ground, so Chad Cornes as forward line coach had to go. Ken as senior coach obviously had to go. So we need to bring in at the least two high quality assistants to replace those two. Things aren't working at SANFL level so i think we need a change in Senior Coach there too.

We need new people in our high performance space.

They are the important appointments. Development coaches aren't as big of a problem for me.

No disrespect Willsy but what does the fact that he may or may not be a good guy have to do with anything? He was an average footballer at Freo. What the hell we picked him up for I have absolutely no idea. He was a beyond terrible captain (I watched him live) and now a development coach on the back of no formal training or qualifications as confirmed by Richo at the AGM earlier this year.
It's a pissant appointment from a pissant head of football.
End of rant.

At the Kenny Hinkley Football Club being a good human trumps having any ability for the role you're in.

Clearly his ability to pull attractive blondes is extremely commendable.

Hasnt our midfield been our strength, not sure about the pile on. Being a average footballer has little to do with being a good coach, in fact many great footballers have been poor coaches. I need more concrete evidence.

Josh Carr is the midfield coach. Sutcliffe can go get some experience and "develop" elsewhere in the lower leagues, not at an AFL club.

There are a quite a few afl coaches that were average footballers, doesn’t mean anything, Fagan didn’t even play VFL or AFL and he is the reigning premiership coach. Conversely gun players don’t always make good coaches.

Didn’t he win a best and fairest in the magpies, sounds like selective memory and narrative.

An inside source has informed me that Sutcliffe is likely to get a line coaching role. Not sure whether its AFL or SANFL.

If Sutcliffe gets a line coaching role at AFL level it literally means that no one from Port's shortlist wanted to join them.

Hopefully for Port Districts

If nothing changes, then he'll still be mid development coach, which is pretty much SANFL mids line coach.
