I'm not taking back anything I've said yet - we'll see if these 1 season contracts are extended before I give him any credit. So far - it's a bandaid fix (Both Webjet and Opel), and if they don't sign on for another year or 2, then we'll be back to square one again.

We need something relatively long term for stability - One year contracts with Major sponsors does not give us the stability we need.

Just my 2c.

So after the Energy Watch debacle, something out of his hands, happens we get stuck in to him freely. But then he covers all those losses, at least for this season, with three terrific sponsors and you can't eat just a small slice of humble pie and give him credit where credit is due?

Even if some of those sponsors are not on board past this season he still has the entire off season to sign up more of them, and there will be sponsors out there after the way we handled the EW situation.

I see your Point CBH - but I can't. Camerons job is to secure the financial status of the club, not bandaid fix it - this isn't a gaffer tape situation.

They are great sponsors - I will give him that, Opal are a GM subsidiary I believe. They trade under the name Vauxhaul in the UK, and Vauxhaul are the UK Holden, and well, Holden are owned by GM - so connect the dots. What it means is that there is Money there. But how Stable is that cash flow in the long term for us?

This time next year, are we going to be sitting here talking about the lack of F&BOJ sponsors again? I certainly hope not, but I don't know & neither do you and wouldn't it be nice to know? - I just think we should be looking at something more permanent like the EW deal.

How's this, If at the end of the season we hear that both Hertz, Webjet and Opel are all going to renew sponsorship - but this time for for 3 years, I'll eat my words.

Is it coincidence that they are all 1 season contracts and his is up for renewal at the end of the season?

I actually made that comment in the original draft of my response, but took it out as I didn't wanna detract from the immediate point.

Either way - my point was that even though MFC have said that they will renew the contract, are the 1 yr sponsorships a way for him to guarantee him his job?

I doubt Schwab was actively turning down multi-year contracts in order to give himself a better hand at his own negotiating table. I doubt we even got too many multi-year deals. Better to leave that option open for when we aren't at panic-stations trying to secure our future.

One thing I'm puzzled by: is it actually his job to go out and get sponsors? My Business Management teacher (who was admittedly a spud of Dicky Tambling proportions) suggested the CEO makes major strategic decisions, rather than handling cash-flow and marketing issues. Don't we have a Corporate Relations Manager or something who's job is to wine and dine potential sponsors and get them on board?

John Poulakakis is the Chief Commercial Officer, it is essentially his responsibility to ensure the club generates as much sponsorship (and service the sponsors) as possible.

I would assume that the CEO is also involved in in our major sponsorship decisions too, given how important it is financially.

So both of them are responsible really.

A good business leader is where he needs to be before anyone else realises it.

We needed him to find some sponsors and he did. If only the player showed as much passion and conviction as Cam does.

Didn't Webjet call us? Can't recall the Opel details atm.

Credit to Schwab and the club for overcoming the EnergyWatch debacle and signing up a number of sponsors, but we were still behind the 8 ball because of our inability to sign and keep long-term sponsors. It shouldn't have taken 4 matches into the season to complete our FOJ and BOJ sponsors. And they are only one year deals at this stage, so we could be back to square one in a few months time.

Wouldn't most prospective sponsors be the party to make first contact with the company they want to sponsor?

You can hardly expect the club to be ringing up every company in Australia (and abroad, in OPEL's case) and hopefully be lucky enough to find one.

I'd say you need to get the message out there that you need a new sponsor, receive offers, weigh up if the offers are good enough and then go from there.

It actually works both ways. Clubs need to get the word out that they are after sponsorship and they need to pitch to the potential sponsors how their brand will be advertised, benefits to the potential sponsor among lots of other things from Licenses, all the way through to the clubs performance on field and finally the cost of all this.

To be successful in this - the club needs to be proactive and can not afford to sit and wait it out for an offer. they need to get out there and actually hunt for an appropriate deal.

This is the way it is from Amateur leagues all the way through to Professional leagues and even Film and TV.

We also signed a couple of other sponcers over the last couple of weeks that haven't got any attention. Progressive online car insurance and BioCeuticals.

5 sponcers in 2 weeks, not bad.

progressive was to take the place of Freedom SEO. That was posted on the MFC website. Bioceuticals is our supplement sponsor.

It didn't. We had a BoJ sponsor, who then turned out to be an absolute nutcase. Once found, we dumped then

Anyone who's telling me that Schawb could've / should've forseen this, could I please borrow your crystal ball

Yes - Webjet called us.

No Idea about Opel though.

They called us, after Schwab contacted them last year to ask if they were interested and they advised they weren't in a position at that time.

Cam laid the early ground work.....surely you can see that?

Well we didn't have a FoJ sponsor until Round 4. Which isn't a great achievement on Schwab's part.

I'll agree that it would've been nice to go into round 1 with a FoJ sponsor, however I also saw the logic in waiting for the best option.

We'd at the time, secured a deal that annually was paying more than our previous BoJ and FoJ sponsors combined. Financially we were secure and clearly the club was awaiting the best deal. I can't argue with that logic

What happened next, who was able to forsee?

There is also the fact that it looks completely unprofessional in this day and age to not have a jumper sponsor during the H&A season. It is not a good image for our club, regardless of how financially rewarding our BoJ sponsor was.

The failure to lock in long term major sponsors is a concern on Schwab's part. We signed Hankook and Kaspersky in 2009; they both ended after three seasons. Webjet and OPEL are both only one year deals; no guarantee that they'll be on board for a while. We could be in the same situation again this time next year.

Fremantle fans were right about this clown.

He must be sacked by the end of the week if there is any truth behind these latest allegations of 'the vault' meeting.

It makes me sick that the club ever employed this goose as CEO.

and we just gave him a new contract!!!! Disgusting.

We will go NOWHERE as a club with idiots like this having positions of power.

Chris Connolly has to go as well.

God i am PISSED OFF right now

Get on the angry emails to the club, I already have.

Seriously, G&GF, both of 'em.

Yeah i had opened my email write after i made this thread

The more people that write to the club, the better.

I feel bad for Mark Neeld, Leigh Brown, Todd VIney, Jade Rawlings and Neil Craig, and the new younger development coaches.

Busting their ass to turn this club around with this shit hanging over their heads. Unfair.

Threaten them with your vote. That'll make the board listen.

It makes me sick enough to think we were stupid enough to bring him in once.

It makes me terminally ill to think that we were stupid enough to employ him twice.

Looking back on hindsight, we would have been better off sacking both Bailey and Schwab even though from the outside there would have been serious questions asked.
