Who gives a fu** about his bowling? I asked you about his batting considering he is being picked for his batting - something you laughably stated wasnt good enough for the top 6 in Australia
He was picked for Australia as an all rounder. Perhaps it would have been better to play him as an opening bat?

He was not picked as an all rounder. He was one of the top 6 batsmen in the country and continues to demonstrate this.
Perhaps if Green had been selected further up the order, we might have been able to get the extra bowler we needed to win the series.

Trevor Hohns:

“Two of those many standout players were of course Cameron Green and Will Pucovski. Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent.

“Cameron has already won selection in the white ball squad and continues that in joining the Test squad. He is a wonderful young talent who has great potential to become an all-rounder of substance over time. His batting alone has demanded his place in the squad.

I’m not disputing that. I’m suggesting he should have been played further up the order to allow for an extra bowler.
You scoffed at my suggestion that he was un the top 6 batsmen in the country and couldnt suggest who would replace him in that top 6. Now ur saying he should be higher up the order?
Youve also claimed he was selected as an allrounder which i just showed you he wasnt. Ur now saying you dont dispute that.

Happy to concede he is in the top 6 batters. Clearly though, he was selected as an all rounder.

As a bowler he was completely ineffective. As were Lyon and Starc. We lost the series because we did not have an attack that was good enough.

Clearly? I literally just posted quote from Hohns saying he had been selected for his batting alone. He specifically says his form was undeniable. He wasnt bowling before the test series so what form is Hohns talking about? Im not sure why you're so invested in stating Green was selected as an all rounder?

Anyway..

So why did he bowl?

Because he could.

Answer me this - If he didn't bowl 1 delivery that test series, do you think he would have missed out on selection? And if so, who for?
He bowled quite a lot for a player selected to bat. One could almost describe him as an all rounder.

We lost the series because we did not have an attack that was good enough.
I disagree with this. We also lost the series because our batting order refused to put the foot on India's throat a couple of times in the final couple of Tests. We could have killed the series off but threw wickets away needlessly.

He is an all rounder. No one is saying he isnt. But even if he didn't bowl, his batting performances warranted his selection on that alone. He wasn't bowling before the test series. No one expected great things from him with the ball after hardly bowling during the previous 18 months. For sure he was disappointing with the ball, but so was Starc and Lyon as you point out. I dont think any other player could have changed that result as a 5th bowler.

You're deliberately trying to avoid my question because you know on batting alone, he was selected in the top 6. I'm not sure why it is so important for you to stand your ground on this. Does it continue to allow you to be critical of the selectors? You think someone else domestically could have been selected to be the 5th bowler who would have helped us win the series? Do you think someone else should have been in the top 6 other than Green that would have changed the result?

Im done with this. Its just a moot point really. But I am glad you conceded what many people have seen and known for a while now that he is in the top 6 best batsmen in the country..

We had enough runs. Bowlers could not get the job done.

I conceded he is top six. Isn’t that why YOU tagged me?

For 70 years we’ve been crying out for a genuine allrounder - we finally get a prospect who looks like he could be the messiah and we want to turn him into a batsman

the lad is working back from a. Serious back injury with a remodelled action

alderman didn’t gun it ball 1 either

for the next 5/6 years assuming smith/lab hold form - he’s not going to be a top order batsman - so no reason he couldn’t be expect to
Bowl a dozen overs a day

despite the lack of wickets - he’s bowled spells/overs that have troubled very good batsmen

at the very least he keeps the pressure on whilst the main guys rest. And this whilst he’s not even back to a full workload

It's not that simple. Sometimes bowlers just never come back to their best.
He appears to have lost the skills to take wickets or the know how at least.

There's some ludicrous takes that get posted on here, but this drivel takes the cake.

He's a 21-year-old back bowling full time for less than a year after a crippling back injury, with a completely remodeled action and a much different role in the attack.

You want to point the finger for last summer, take a look at the Captain and senior bowlers (Lyon, Starc).

Amazing knock. Even Smith has never gotten a 250. Green's mental capacity to bat for long periods of time is so impressive.
What impressed me first few times I seen him was he did not look in top form but hanged around and showed patience to work through some innings where he had no flow. Then once he got a bit more comfortable playing a few Test innings he opened up. Now he just going on with it for rest of summer. The find of the Australian summer in what has been a shit summer for the actual international team.

Our batting has been really thin on options for a number of years now. All of a sudden Green joins Pucoski to give us two realistic options so we do not need to keep recycling guys like Wade into the team. We now need a couple more guys in the 20 to 25 year age bracket to show they are good enough to start re-building the Test batting line-up. Especially some openers as Warner is getting on and Harris is not the answer as he just does not get big scores.
