Why isn't Jack Edwards in conversation for all rounder spot?! Seems like better bowling than both Webster and Green.

He has been getting call ups for Australia A recently which suggests he probably isn’t too far away.
I think the bowling means very little for the all rounder spot. Green bowled 36 overs in the first four games, probably rarely more than 4 in a spell. The four first choice bowlers should get the job done and that fifth bowler is really just to get a few extra minutes rest
Edwards batting is solid enough but think would need some to see more evidence that it’s strong enough to be top 7 in the national setup. This is his stats the past few seasons

Webster knocked down the door over multiple seasons averaging 50 or thereabouts. If Edwards can have a season where he makes multiple hundreds and averages around that, then I’m sure he would get an opportunity (that’s providing Green continues his current output and doesn’t become the player he should be)
Just for those stating there are no obvious candidates to replace him as a batter, Head averages 40 and Marnus averaged 36 when first selected. What was the reset between balls he was doing yesterday? he kept looking into the crowd then the sky ? praying to God ? haha Not a good sign mentally he is trying out new methods in the middle of game.
Interesting comparison between Green and Webster. Like for like in many ways; both near 2 metres tall, right hand middle order bat and right arm seamers. Green made his test debut at 21 though, while Webster was 31. Green seems more talented but Webster with small sample size has been more effective.

We're doing something different this test with him.
In the past, he's been used as the 5th seamer; 8 overs, rotation option, chopout and give the main quicks a rest. But here's he's being used as the 3rd-4th seamer, behind Starc and Boland but not really behind Neser. Neser fills in for the spinner as Carey can keep up to him, and Green is much faster. He's bowler fast but not particularly well to this point, but I'm seeing hints today of a bit more fitness and venom.
He still bowls too many gifts - half volleys and just short tripe, but also just clips off the legs - but it's interesting. It's an adjustment of what they see him to be: a bloke who could be an acceptable no.7-8 and 4th bowling option rather than genuine all rounder, or at least until the figures warrant it. He'd want to get much better if they want to do it beyond the short term, though.
Let's not rewrite history .Maxy had a weakness v pace bowling/short ball and was never going to be a number 4 for the test team outside of Asia. and his bowling is that of a part timer.
Funny how stats wise Green is almost the same as stokes

Green is also six years younger than Webster and eight years younger than Stokes.Yes but stokes stands up in big moments. Green is fragile as all heck.
Webster clearly ahead of him now. Still think he’s worth persisting with and there’s obviously been a significant investment with the major back surgery he’s had.
I still think he finishes with a Shane Watson average of 35-37 ish and hopefully his bowling improves more to justify an all-rounder spot.
Probably gives up the bowling in 4-5 years which might help his batting.
Keep the faith
He’s a major concern. Since returning from injury he’s now had 15 knocks and averaged 22 with a high score of 52. It’s very poor stuff from a top 6 batsman.
Having said that I expect he hangs around because there’s other issues and not really anybody knocking the door down. Khawaja’s departure comes at a very good time for him as it opens up a spot that Webster quite possibly takes, at least for now. I don’t really see who else is primed to come in at bat 6 or 7 other than Green.
