Re: Ling does a hammy

That's a shame, sounds like Ling has had a good pre-season until now. Hopefully it's nothing serious & just the Herald Sun needing a story for today's paper.

Like this bit of the article though;

'Rookie forward Ben Johnson, who is in line for a NAB Cup berth, said the arrival of new coach Chris Scott and a remodelled game plan had re-energised the club.

"It feels like not one thing is the same as last year, everyone is training so much harder and it looks like everyone is so much fitter and stronger," Johnson said.

"Everyone is really respecting Scotty, he is really clear and precise with his messages and it's given all the older guys a new lease of life.

"We are still going to be daring Geelong, but we have had to change a few things.

"Not only the way we defend but our attack as well, because the game is always evolving." :thumbsu::thumbsu:

That sucks for Lingy. But to be honest if his hammy and trav's shoulder are our only worries then we're not traveling too bad (trav's shoulder should be fine for NAB cup anyway) - there are always injuries in the preseason. Sucks for lingy though

Sounds like training has been much more solid than usual, maybe lingy was pushing much harder than before!

I am aware of how hard he trains but with all the speculation about his age, slowness and retaining the captaincy and new coach he has hopefully like the rest of the team been pushing it to new limits :thumbsu:

Not too concerned about the pink pig, he'll be right.

For all the hardcore fans who attend trainings etc, how is Hawkins going this pre-season? Has he managed to get himself fit yet? Want to see him monster some full backs this year!

I have been to training and he looks a bit trimmer than last year. However we will have to wait to see how he performs in a game of footy.

Hopefully Scott has been in his ear and instilled six drops of Essence of Terror and 5 drops of Sinister Sauce into the big monster.

I really think that the kid has enough talent to play KP forward. His biggest problem is between the ears IMHO.

Sorry for derailing the thread.

Now back to the topic of the thread.

Hawkins look very fit and tanned.. Looks slim and ready to go. Lost that baby fat he had.

Bad news, just what I didn't want to hear.

Lingy certainly will be somewhat vulnerable now if some of the young forwards we bring in (presumably menzel duncan motlop and maybe one or two others) excel during the four weeks of the NAB Cup.

Serious or not, I hope Scott doesn't do a Thompson and play players who are unfit or not match fit and need VFL games. Doesn't matter if he's the captain, nobody plays unless they're absolutely fit, that should be the new policy.

As an aside, like Benny J's comments and hopefully he gets a run in the NAB Cup.

Blah, slow news day...
Lingy was probably lifting a little more than he should on the straight legged dead lifts that morning, is all...

Move along people. :thumbsu:

Almost any other player, and this would be a non-issue.

But, Lingy needs most things to go right for him this year if he is to remain our best tagger. This is exactly what he doesn't need.

is it a sign the hard training is going to cause us injury problems??

Nup, I wouldn't say one player is a sign.

Now if (and I hope we don't) get half a dozen injuries, then that might be a sign.

If we get 1/2 a dozen then so be it.
We weren't fit enough last year. Roll the dice.

I'm concerned, first sign of an aging body. Given the type of player that Ling is, when he starts going downhill, he will go downhill fast.

Would hate for him to end his career in the twos trying to show he has still got it.

Hope he's not similar to his famous tagee, N Buckley.

See Ben Cousins is lining up for Balwyn, talking about famous hammies

Me too...I do feel the end may come quickly. I watched the great GF last night and as much as I love Harls, you couldn't watch it without noticing how much of a passenger he was compared to those around him. I hope Ling doesn't fall like that this year as well.

And even if the body does come back well from the hammy with no after issues, if the kids we put in the forward line in the NAB Cup play really well, they won't be dropped immediately and Linga may have to bide his time a bit. I don't expect (or at least I hope) that Scott won't simply turf the youngsters as soon as an older player, as per previous policy.

In reality it doesn't sound like a bad injury, but if there's one player who needed a full pre season and NAB Cup to solidify a full time spot, Linga is that man.

I said this in another thread, wouldn't have had him captain in 2010 and did zilch on the Field to retain it in 1011.

New coach new broom Scott should never have stood by and let it happen.

If Scotts that week at selection god help us.

This is our very own Richie Vandenberg.

Give him a chance, he's yet to select a Geelong team for any game yet.

We need to give him at least the first few weeks of the regular season, who knows, he may well institute a fairer selection policy/

If then it doesn't happen, by all means I will agree with your comments, time will tell.

I agree with your sentiments about Ling though, bad decision I think it will prove to be.

I get a bit carried away on this subject P.O.

According to this mornings Addy Ling may only mis the first NAB game.so good news there.

Will he be fit for the second one an hour after the first? ;):p
