Some how it seems George Bailey of the back of 6 weeks of good cricket has surpassed all other batsmen as next in line for Australian duties. I almost choked on my breakfast Saturday morning when i saw John Anderson's 2013 Ashes squad it did not contain Cameron White .

Cameron White is a better batsmen, bowler, fieldsmen and captain than George Bailey is. Not to mention White has been more consistent and has the runs on the board over the past 3 years as opposed to Bailey who is only know consistently making runs at First class and list A level.

I rate George Bailey but can't see how he has overtaken White in the pecking order in some peoples mind. This is Bailey's first consistent season while White has been consistent the last few season. Plus White has cemented his place in the ODI side and has a better average in T20 cricket then any other Australian at international level. And yes Whites limited over record for Australia is relevant because it shows he can handle it at higher level.

Hopefully soon people will realize how much White has improved as a batsmen and isnt only suited to the limited overs stuff.

you wonder how much higher White would be rated now if he'd hurt his back playing grade cricket and never bowled at first class level. I rate his bowling behind that of Clarke/Katich (ie strictly part-time, if that) - yet is generally viewed as an all-rounder who can bat, rather than a genuine batsman who offers an alternative.

Very good slipper too.

I see you took my suggestion Saj. Well based this upon it anyway. White is better but atm Bailey would be closer.

Let the kid settle into first class cricket, but won't be to long before we see him in australian colours.

haha started the thread yesterday ...bailey has more votes thus far!

Say he's a better batsman if you like, but saying White is a better fieldsman is flat out lying. Bailey would have to be one of the best fielders going around in domestic cricket at the moment.

Was to general to say definitely better, but white has superior ahnds in the slips and from what i have seen wouldn;t say bailey is far and away better in the field than white, you can give bailey his 1 point for fielding. But White still has him covered for batting most importantly, bowling and captaincy.

Counting White's "bowling" is laughable! Marcus North is Shane Warne compared to White! Lets break down...

Captaincy- pretty even, Bailey has done well with Tassie this year

Batting- White just, but potential is with Bailey in this regard.

Bowling- Not even worth discussing, both are rubbish.

White is a far better fielder than Bailey. White has the best pair of hands on domestic cricket, can field anywhere in the cordon, gully, point, short cover, anywhere. Bailey's fielding hasn't been the best this season, just look at his game against Victoria, he made 1 good stop and that's it, he fielded terribly before that.

captaincy- White has it hands down, captained at least 1 tournament win in each of the past 3 seasons

batting- White is one of the best domestic batsmen atm, should bat at 3 now that Hodge is gone for Victoria

bowling- White ahead, his leggie's are very handy

fielding- White, clearly

This whole idea of comparing their bowling is stupid. It's like saying Paine is better than Haddin partly because he is a better bowler. If they're not going to do it when they get in the team, it is irrelevant. I'll give White captaincy and batting - although you could argue neither are going to be the captain, so it is also irrelevant. I reckon Bailey is a much better fielder, but we're clearly having to agree to disagree on that one. This season though, Bailey's batting has been better. We've been waiting for a while for him to finally click and put in some consistent performances, and he's starting to do that now. If he keeps it up he can overtake White, but he hasn't done that yet.

Bailey is getting there but atm White is ahead through his more consistent performances in past seasons. In terms of the selection queue, White is definitely ahead of Bailey if not for the above for his ODI performances. The ODIs are usually the pathway into the Test side and give you the chance to show how you would cope against International attacks. Bailey's time will come and he should be given a go in the ODI side this summer.

As a Tasmanian I'd love to be able to make a case for Bails but I cant.

White has consistency on his side and there has been no form slump this year.

Bailey has always threatened to do well and for the regular watches of first class cricket in this country would well be aware he has a tenancy to get himself out, often at the worst possible time.

There have always been signs but he never performed consistently enough to be considered for higher honors.

Id obviously love to see it happen but it's not yet warranted.

Just like a lot of Victorians pandering as Wade as best state keeper last year though mind you.

spot on, he has potential to explode and this has been the case for 5-6 yrs. No point arguing anything for the exact Wade reason u mentioned.

No he hasn't!

His biggest problem, by a mile.

Most people still view him as a bowler who can bat, or an average bat who can bowl.

No one thinks he can bowl, he doesnt even bowl himself as he knows he cant

His bowling isn't the worst, before the Pakistan series he actually had 2 more 5 fers than our current spinner. Its decent enough for a part timer, the reason most calling him an all rounder if because early on he was seen as an all rounder and his figures backed that up. He should start bowling again as that will help him in his quest of getting the number 6 spot of North as that was one reason why he got picked over David Hussey.
