During trade week, my club, Essendon, was prepared to off-load two of Blumfield, Heffernan and Caracella to get Campbell Brown.

Would you Hawk fans have let him go for two quality players, or would it have taken all three? Personally I would have given up all three to get him, because I rate him incredibly highly. I think he will turn out to be a better player than Luke Hodge, not just because of his ability, but because of his work ethic and team play.

I think Sheedy was prepared to give away the world to get him, but not surprisngly the Hawks wouldn't budge. So, from a supporters view, what would it have taken to trade him? There is always a price.

Thats Mal browns son right?
To think he was available for West Coast to draft under the father son rule (Mal brown in the WAFL) was it last year or the year before?
I think thats right anyway.

A lot of us think sheedy was just stirring it up.

Like when he offered a place to trent croad - like to know how that would have gone with the salary cap.

salary cap

They knocked off about 800K worth of players there. and will relieve about 400K of that by having draft picks and 2 relatively lowly-paid players in Cupido and McPhee.

If I was Hawthorn, wouldn't have done it. I would have swapped the #10 pick for Blumfield and a Bombers 2nd round pick.

No way. I've noticed on the boards and from my mates he is very highly rated by opposition supporters, I sure sign you have a good player.

I wouldn't have done it because Brown is a tough nut - a kind of player we are really lacking, especially after Chick left. Blumfield and Heffernan are quality in a good midfield, but would have to do more work with us.

The courage Mad-dog has is simply incredible. However, he definitely won't be as good as Luke Hodge. Hodge is the best 18 year old I've ever seen at the club, by a long way. Yes, he is that good.

I'm hoping Campbell Brown is used as a forward pocket again next year, because we lack a small forward, and he can take a grab. Also works hard to keep the ball in the forward 50.

no! One of the only players in our team to throw himself into a pack and put his body on the line.

I think Luke Hodge is more talented, but I think Brown will be the better player for your club (if that makes sense.) The way he goes about his football is sensational. Sheedy loves those sorts of players.

sORRY dan cant agree with ya , Hodge is pure class , and he is far from soft, whilst Bbrown will be a very good player for years to come, Hodge WILL be a champion

Browny and Hodgey will both be champions. They are playing great senior footy with hawthorn and will continue to do so in the future.

C: Hodge, Crawford, Brown

What a great midfield

Swapping Campbell Brown for those three players wouldn't be good for Hawthorn.

Firstly we wouldn't fit them all in the salary cap.

Secondly Hawthorn lacks depth in top quality players. We need the potentially best player we can get. Other players don't help us much, even if there are three of them. That's just three we gotta pay without getting the best player we need.

Brown should be a midfielder and we'd like to, as all clubs would I'm sure, spend our big money on midfielders and key position players and get cheaper players (we've got the Simon Cox, Greene, Bateman etc.) to play on the flanks. The Essendon players are quality players but they are highly paid flankers. Clubs can't afford to have many highly paid flankers (and we've already got Dixon) which is probably why Essendon had to lose them and why they all went to seperate clubs, not the one club.

Brown shouldn't get close to being as good as Hodge is going to be though. Hodge looks like he is going to be our number one player very quickly and for a long time.

In hindsite three players of Caracella, Heffernan and Blumfield's standard sounds good... but with the potential of Brown and the salary cap bound to cause some problems with these three players I would never do the deal.

Campbell Brown will be a great player and I hope he plays his entire career at the Hawks.
